Personally I would hate to be a fan of that team.
I see the logic/trouble with depending on 2 rookies...but Lester isnt really a rookie anymore. DiceK was a rookie last year like Ichiro was in his first year (though I think adjusting as a pitcher is different than as a hitter). But really...would you rather depend on Wakefield/Buchholz/Lester to make 90 starts, or take another 3 from any team in the league (we're talking 3/4/5) slots in the rotation to make a)90 starts and b) produce. Schilling won 9 games last year. Hopefully between Lester and Buchholz, we can get 20 wins conservatively. Thats more than we got from Lester/Schilling last year. So now Schill goes down and Lester steps up and pitches fairly well...I think they improve.
And I still dont see any rotation going from "great" to "shaky at best" losing a 9 game winner. Especially with Buchholz ready and waiting.

i think most yankee fans don't realize clay is as good as joba, the guy that they believe is the best rookie pitcher and the future of the franchise.
Not so good either.... which is why I think the Yankees are flirting with disaster with Kennedy/Hughes/Chamberlain with Mike "How the fuck am I still pitching in the pros" Mussina waiting in the wings (assuming Pettitte is in the rotation this year). OK, so maybe I pushed it with "shaky at best", but its tough relying on two rookies, even if they are that good.
KG- I'm fairly certain the Yankees think Joba is the future of the franchise as well, not only their fans. Can't say if he's the best rookie pitcher- we can revisit that in about 8 months.
Shit, you could be the Orioles and not have any starters.![]()
i'm sure they do. they probably read the same scouting reports that place him as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. his name is right next to clay's.
the point being some fans of the yankees are of the mind that the sox are worse off with clay seeing more innings but they would be excited with the thought of joba pitching more innings this year, say as a starter.
If the Yankees fans think the Sox are worse off with Clay Buchholz pitching more, well then, they're just retarded.
Keith Law of ESPN has Joba ranked higher than Clay, BTW.(3 vs 4)
well, it looks like mets/phillies are the new rivals

which kind of sucks, because i'd hate to have to hate the phillies.. i love hating the braves OTOH.
i've always kind of liked the phillies.. seemed like new york's little brother, if you will.
