    Bluehouse Skis Graphic Design Contest

I'd love to see a maggot win this.

We're making a new pair of skis for next season, our third model. Sure we could come up with a name and slap some graphics on this model but we realize that we aren't nearly as talented as our community is. Plus, part of being an indie company is being involved with our skiers. So we're kicking it to community with a contest.

Naming the ski is part of the design so designers can make that ski design and name they've always thought would be sick.

Winner takes home two pairs of the skis. Contest runs from Nov. 15 to Jan 15.

Get the template and upload designs at BluehouseSkis.com

    Is that a new model?

Anyone know the dimensions?? Lenght? Intended use? So on so forth?

Things you need to know if you´re going to design something fitting...

Cool idea though. It´s fun for those participating, a cheap way to get a good design for bluehouse and a good way to support a cool indie company.

Didn't realize it was a Maggot company. Good on ya. If I had any artistic talent, I might submit something.

Am I the only one that looks at these contests and immediately says MD9 just won 2 new pair of skis? Just wondering.

    no... Because I'm gonna win!

Any motif ideas or just freestyle? Size ideas would help. Building a template.

It's not. They're just pandering to us in an not so novel way. I love it when companies con their customers into doing free work for them. Sure beats paying a graphic designer. Yay Bluehouse. Yer our best buddies. You care about us. Why not just make kick ass skis that we'll want to buy rather than puking up marketing 101 pretending to be one of us? Just sayin'...

truth, why the hate? ALL of the indie companies that have come here to market do the same thing... or they should from a business pov. I doubt they have the funds/time to do it themselves, so why not let others do the work for 'em? Pretty smart move on their part. Whoever makes a design must think that their time/effort is clearly worth 2 free skis. I doubt that any "real" designers would "waste" their time on this shit, and would simply fork over the dough instead.

Have you seen the bro models? I'll let MD9 know he's not a real designer in the morning. I'm not spitting hate, just calling it what it is. It's a pretty feeble stab at something that's already been done. Seems to be working though as it has people thinking that Bluehouse is a "maggot" company when in reality it's a company that hired a maggot to do their marketing.

I really dig md9's work, but in all honesty I'm not a big fan of the new bro design. Kinda busy and feminine. Might look great on a tee or in print, but on the limited space of a ski it doesn't really do it for me. anyway, will be nice to see his and other's designs. Taste is subjective at best. or something.

yeah because having your artwork on other peoples skis and getting a couple free pairs would really suck!

feminine? some of the others have an unusual blend of blue and green, that could appear odd on a ski to some, but it stands out as different, which is a lot of what people look for in graphics for thier skis.

not trying to start a flame-fest about it, cause its a matter of personal taste with graphics. Which leads us away from the point of how do they ski and hold up under a maggot thrashing?

I think its fine that bluehouse spams here, they should be able to. Hell, they sold a ton of skis at a great deal through word of mouth, right here on TGR. So why not go and see what the collective thinks and have thier input on the next great pow ski deal

Having your artwork on things is only of value if you need exposure. Free skis are only of value if you need skis. All depends where you are on the career trajectory. There is a point where doing work for a few pairs of skis is far more of an inconvenience than a thrill and to some extent devalues your work, but I am digressing...

Yikes. Uh. Those districts look cool. I have no problem designing top sheets for skis, but I don't know how many different companies I can continue to do this for before it starts seeming like some type of conflict of interests. Sounds like fun though.

lets design it together, in that I mean, you do the design (cause the only original designs i can come up with are on toilet paper), i put my name on it, if your design wins, i'll give you a set of skis?

then we know you rule, but i get the credit we all ski pow, everybody wins

Not everything in this world has to be about money. Do you ever do anything for just the fun and fuck of it? I know getting my work on a pair of skis won't do anything for my "career" but I would still enjoy to see my work on the mountain even if the person in the lift line next to me doesn't know or care that I did it.

Just my $.02. Different strokes for different folks.

I'm sure the current designs really appeal to lots of folks. Personally I'd like to see a run of bros with some of md9's illustration work. I think that might also appeal to a younger crowd. Take a look at his conveyor portfolio and check out the london institute illustrations etc...

on a side note this one cracks me up... hope you don't mind me linking this md9.

So, he's not exactly a mag, but he's a friend of mine. Jordan Hull is putting up a few designs (he has the first up already - the trees with the reindeer base). Check it out, vote for him, he's a good kid. Dated his sister for a long time... He's kinda trying to get his foot in the ski design door, so help him out!
