I think there are points to both sides. While Billy Beane is definitely an excellent GM, he is not the god of all GMs. Like I said before it's hard to quantify a GM because each teams situation is very different. In Billy Beane's case he does amazing things with his teams when their payroll is tiny. It is EXTREMELY hard to get solid power hitter, whether developing one in the farm or paying for one.

Here is a link to baseball payrolls: http://rubechat.kfan.com/forums/thread/1667648.aspx

Look at what the A's and Twins do with the payrolls they have, and then look at Seattle or the Cubs. Just disgusting. Terry Ryan and Billy Beane are definitely two of the top 5 GMs in baseball, no question about it.

Two nice starts in a row for Fogg.

In the meantime, Schilling is going to miss at least one start with some sort of shoulder fatigue. Theo Epstein's stock just went up a bit.

A little bit, yes. Hopefully Schil can rebound.

In the meantime, do you think they'll start Lester? Or Gabbard?

Lester the Molester! Although it may screw things up when Schilling does come back -do they just keep Lester in and tell Tavarez, who actually has pitched really well, to go hang out in the pen? I say yes.

And Gabbard has pitched well this year at AAA and in his one start.

I fail. However, my excuse is that I only like the Yankees because of how much I hate the Red Sox. I can't stand them, their fans, their pine tar, the big dig, cambridge, or anything Mass related. I truly find the red sox repulsive and I love to wallow in their patheticness. There is nothing better than watching them get beat, or blow a double digit division lead, or bitch and moan about the fact that they can't seem to have success. And best of all, is watching the look on the fans/teams faces when the yanks kick their ass.

thanks to all of you BoSox fans for 162 games of entertainment every summer.

Herald is reporting that Devern Hansack will make the start on Sunday if Schill can't.

By really well, do you mean the 4.97 ERA, or the 1.42 WHIP? I guess you have a point though, since a 5 ERA with the Sox gets you 15 wins.

I don't think so. I think you'd see Gabbard or even David Pauley up with the big club before Lester gets the call. Tavarez is going good, there's no reason to take him out of the rotation right now, and Lester is getting some good seasoning and conditioning work at AAA right now. I'm not really sure what the option situation is for Gabbard or Pauley, but those guys can make a spot start and not kill you. I really wouldn't be surprised to not see Lester until 2008.

I think he was referring to the fact that in the last seven starts for Tavarez, he's averaging 7 innings, 1.14 WHIP, .222 opp. BA, 2.57 ERA.

Just like Yankee fans pointing to Mike Mussina to stabilize their rotation. With his 1.33 WHIP and 5.10 ERA. Nice #5 though.

Lately Tavarez has pitched pretty well. Last start 7 IP 2 runs. Beat the Tigers, Yankees twice too. Hes a consistent 6 inning 3 run pitcher. And Ill take that.

Yeah, he should have just made something up that fit his argument, instead of just saying that Tavarez has pitched well (which he has).

Yeah, that or maybe you should check your numbers before you call me out. Please explain to me how this is true : "I think he was referring to the fact that in the last seven starts for Tavarez, he's averaging 7 innings, 1.14 WHIP, .222 opp. BA, 2.57 ERA".

He's averaged 6 innings with a 4.07 ERA in those seven starts. Here's the numbers, stat boy. He's only lasted 7 innings twice.

You haven't seen much baseball the past few years, have you? Wish you could be at the subway stop with me when a 4 train rolls in carrying another group of whiney Skanks fans following yet another disappointing loss.

And to fill you in, the Skanks grounds crew tidies up the field to 'It's Raining Men,' at the end of which they all drop their pants and lie along the foul line in 69 position fellating each other. They love that shit in the Bronx.
And the reality is only slightly less gay.
