Car + Sleeping bag never hurt anyone
Not too sure about lodging up that way, I'd imagine they're starting to get booked up pretty fast. Something 5-10mi down rt4 might have better prices than anything actually on the mountain or access road.

PSA for the Magic lineup crew. Ole' Red starts @ 9 tomorrow instead of 8.

    From the Alpine update:

    - Beginning this Saturday, March 17th we will be changing our weekend operating hours due to the change in Daylight Saving Time. In order to let the trails soften up and to enjoy more afternoon skiing and riding we are pushing back opening to 9am and will run the lifts until 5pm. Come on out and enjoy skiing and riding into the evening hours.

We'll be upstairs early watching ski porn @ the bar.

    I'm out of here!!!

    hey phil,

    everything elevens said.
    magic ROOOOOOLS!
i skied there the (12-16"pow) saturday before last (as well as both days last w/e)...i will continue to look back on that day as one of the finest i ever spent on skis.

skiing red line on a powder day is pretty much as good as it gets. you'll stil have plenty of days to get back to K. skiing magic with the kind of cover that's anticipated is rare and special. you'll be glad you did! you will dream of returning.

Looks like Im going to take the BMW out of winter storage and try and make it through 20 inches, just to get one last pow day for the season at Cannon tomorrow. Then Im heading to Jackson Hole for some corn harvesting. Nice way to end winter before true spring skiing season starts here in NE.

been trying desperately all morning now to get out of work tomorrow to ski magic...

ah yes, one of the great ironies of working at a ski shop..
They left not knowing what this place was about. They left assuming we were thinking about them.
    We weren't.
They were thinking about us and we were living.

    ASC Ho

just looked at the forecast for Mt Slow/Dover and it takes the cake for deepest potential dump:
    Saturday
Snow. Snow may be heavy at times in the morning. Total accumulation of 15 to 30 inches. Blustery and cold with highs in the mid 20s. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph... becoming north 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph in the afternoon. Chance of snow near 100 percent.

same southern VT latitude so.... Magic WILL be epic.
Hope we get the 12-20" predicted here.
gotta use the ASC pass so it's Attitash or SR.

Whats so great about magic? Is their snow made from beer that you can drink on the way down?

Seriously though. What are the crowds like there? Worth shelling out the $50 to ski there rather than using the pass at mt snow?

Yes, yes it is. Until you have skied it, especially on a powder day it is tough to grasp.

Take anything in Southern vermont, tip it over so it is considerably steeper, throw in classic cut VT trails (ie Mad river), no lift lines, great trees, nice drops, cool base lodge and people and you have Magic. Or think Mad river with a little less vert and no wait to get on the Red Chair. Also keep in mind that if the wind pics up the Red Chair to the top NEVER goes on wind hold.

If you do venture up come upstairs to the bar, we will be watching a little ski porn while we get ready. I am thinking Sinners or Born from Ice will be the pick of the day.

My only disclaimer is that the warmth and rain did hurt the snow so there might be a rough bottom under the potential 15-30"

So we're staying in Wilmington. Plan right now is to get to Mt. Slow early. Take 2 runs during the season passholder thing from 7:30-8ish, and then jump in the car and drive the rest of the way to magic for fresh turns all day. Who knows, maybe we'll convert. With the dissappearance of the ASC pass for next season, I'm looking for a mountain to affiliate myself with.

WHOA. It's season passholder appreciation week isn't it. How does one get in on that? Other than having a pass of course.

On another note, it is going to be awfully dark at 7:30am. I am still getting used to this new daylight savings time.
