soon all hell is breaking loose from the sky

    again translated from French

"MeteoSuisse launched a bulletin of orange bad weather (event occurring the every 1 to 3 years). Chablais and Low-Were worth it will be particularly concerned with the strong bad weather (20-50 mm per day until Saturday), as for snow, the office plurality could reach 80 to 150 cm above 2000 m Saturday evening! Park with the dangers of avalanches (4 out of 5 this morning for Chablais), but also with snowslide softened below 1700 m and with the overflow lower river. As for the tempestuous winds, they will disturb largely the exploitation of the ski lifts this Thursday, then again Saturday......................Precipitations will become also increasingly abundant as of this morning, with a snow line towards 1200-1300 m initially, tonic to 1400-1500 m this afternoon and even higher per moment. Friday morning, always of precipitations, by moment abundant, against Préalpes (snow around 1400-1500 m). Lull the afternoon and in the night of Friday to Saturday with last flakes towards 1100 Mr. Vendredi will be one day calmer on the level of the winds which will remain however constant in mountain. Saturday, new reinforcement of the winds which will be again tempestuous and resumption of precipitations, this time with rain until around 2000-2200 m! Improvement and very soft Sunday, with fœhn and temperatures which will exceed the 10°C in station. New probable degradation Monday after the end of the fœhn, with snow temporarily towards 1100 Mr. All the next week seems to remain disturbed, with snow going down around 1000 m in weekend. Perhaps the winter did not say its last word!"

    -------

Lets hope the snow stays low enough for all to benefit, slide danger will be through the roof the next days, stay safe.

Hey, I'm too lazy to search. Mate of mine wants to go to Pitztal for the last weekend of April. What is Pitztal like? Any good? Do they have a park?

pitztal is ok, not the best spot in the alps imho, but ok
they have a park, but there might be better parks in the other glacier ski areas.

if conditions are good at pitztal, there is a lot to ski with easy access from the lifts or short hikes. the park does not seem very elaborate, but i wouldn't know the difference. rifflsee ski area next to the glacier can also be quite nice but probably will not have a lot of snow left in april.

I've got a week booked from the 10th down near Alpe d'Huez. I'm not fussy. Just need coverage.

You're welcome to swing by for a visit. Hayduke is dropping in and me and the Monkey man will be there. Wine and cheese is a given.

Judging by the pictures and the altitude, Im guessing it was the area on the left as you are heading up the gondola underneath the snowfences. I've no clue if thats Hintere Rendl or not.

Raining here, where´s it snowing (soon)?

It rained up to 1800m(?) in Verbier an hour ago, and it´s raining up to at least 1800m in Champex-Lac now. I was hoping for the announced 30cm+ tonight, but it´s not looking good. Thinking about heading futher west, but not sure where. If someone has a good recommendation and would like a group of about 10 Norwegians buying you beer - go ahead
I can see my house from here!

Meteo France are giving an Extreme avalanche warning (5/5) overnight for the Haute-Savoie / Savoie. First time we've bene there this year. That means roads and buildings might get hit. Looking out of the window I saw a lot of purges as the rain had reached around 2200 meters yesterday. The Haute-Tarentaise, Mont-Blanc and Grandes Rousses are going to get pounded like a teen on prom night over the next 24-48 hours. Sunday is expected to be sunny... and erm, highly dangerous.

The Chamonix road from St Gervais is partially blocked by a landslide which will take a few days to clear apparently.

    Scary stuff.

"Very intense precipitations Thursday evening with a tempestuous wind (limit rain/snow between 1500 and 1800 meters). Snows envisaged: 60 to 100 cm to with 2500 meters."

I'll be in Davos for an avy course from the 9th to the 13th. Not sure what I'll be doing afterwards. Got a lot of work to do but might be in for skiing with some mags on the 14th and 15th.

Then back to work I guess...

Started snowing in the village again this morning, but freezing line was pretty high yesterday - 1700-1800m. Still thinish, but building.
