Hey, big fella, thought that would smoke you out!

Good to hear you had decent conditions up at G3000. We weren't so lucky at Alpy D although there's starting to be a decent base building there and there's snow in the forecast. I've only just recovered from this weekend's excursions.

me too. i skied both fri and sat and was near comatose on sunday. i never even made it off the couch.

the weekend is looking up. snow-forecast has all their maps in a twist but it was looking good last night for the french alps. i've got some time off next week so a little road trip might be in order.

no. my problem is the 1200km driving eating up my money
and my final exams stalking me every minute of my miserable being....

if i had to drive 200 or even 400 id do it but i need 3-4 days to get excited. (or a record dump )

that and im in a winter mood quite a bit.

i've noticed that too. its a bit hard after our last season but after changing attitude you can still have some (or a lot) of fun. theres still some snow around, im taking a 5½ day avy course atm and both of the two days we've had so far the group/guide has found at least some soft stuff to ski on. nothing so "omgspectacular" but with the right attitude still nice. and if i havent completely misunderstood then in the french alps/chamonix etc its even a lot better than here..

the forecast looks promising, something's on it's way for the weekend. early next week could be pretty decent. just in time for the school holidays.

Any idea what the snowline will be on the weekend? - Swissmeteo is saying rain in Verbier and the surrounding areas during the next 7 days and no snow.

snow down to 1000m (starting at sat/sunday) and then the freezing level will go back up to ~2500...
no significant snow earlier than sunday.
the 24hours in between monday and warm late tuesday could be nice

Conditions seems to be icy at least in glaciers of Engelberg

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyhete...005523,00.html

Be careful out there. A swede died in Engelberg on Monday. RIP.

Skied Verbier yetserday. Only skied off Mont Fort (apart from one of the les Attelas Couloirs to get home) Skied untracked fluff all day. Was suppriesd how good the snow was - boot top deep and verry light, only a few small windblown patches. Not suppriesd where I found it - that palce hides its stashes well

    R.I.P

I was just thinking about the glacier skiing in another thread (see my Engelberg TR from week 6 http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=77544)

When there we made the decision to pass the glacier...just because of the thin snow cover on blue ice in places (overall it looked like in good conditions it would be just nice). It seemed to me that compared to e.g. Cham people went there pretty carelessy, without harnesses, alone etc.

I don't want to sound like preaching but these things should never happen.

    RIP
expect it was even more dangerous just after a snowfall than it was when i did it a few weeks ago - a thin layer of nice snow on blue ice isn't a good combination. when i did it, there wasn't that thin layer so the blue ice was there for all to see. it was still a bit deceptive - there was one bit which looked fine from the lift but turned out to be only slightly more edgable than blue ice

Skied Aiguille d'Argentiere down the Millieu glacier today. Two inches of snow on top of blue ice above the bottle neck, nice powdery slush (or slushy powder) below it, then some powder around 3400, and then a very nice layer of not too wet spring snow down to the Argentiere hut at 2700. Skied a coulouir just above the hut yesterday afternoon, lots of fun overall. Will post some pictures tomorrow...

forecast looking very promising for the weekend here, though the meteo at chamonix.com are still not putting up potential snow amounts...
according to this shit here, we could get dumped on

It was a bluebird day at Adelboden - 11 degrees C. That place rocks - I had never heard of it untill a week ago - but considering it is less than an hour from Bern, it was fun. Off piste was thin and thick. On piste, it softend up and let you make hero turns. I hope we get some snow, then things will really get fun there.

Any of the Swiss mags skis/ride at Adelboden?

o.t. - anyone here going to the tele fest in Livingo?

I think it's time you show this Nendaz based maggot some of those hidden stashes . I arrived here 2 1/2 weeks ago and I don't know all the cool spots. Didn't manage to find fluffy stuff here today. I'm thinking of hiking up mt. Gelé any of these days, depending on conditions.

I hate how unpredictable the weather is here. We should get around 20cm here in town at 1200 meters with 30-40 up higher by monday, then of course a nice warm spike on Tuesday to threaten the snow again, and then theres talks about next weekend (March 3rd) shaping up to be big ANTIJINX

anyone else heard the rumors. Im just gonna go with the flow of the season and assume nothins gonna happen. Ya i know im so optimistic

Yeah next week tuesday onwards looks like another stream of warm fronts from the southwest. Maybe big low on thursday, but yeah, signs of shitty warm crap at the weekend are coming up. Oh well, as u say, just going with the 06/07 flow....

here are some shots from the last couple days in the Argentiere basin area...

    http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=77818

the millieu glacier is still thin but skiable, and the barbey coul. on the nort east face of the Aig. d'Arg. is also in condition.

Adelboden is on my pass, but a bit far to get to from here.
Nonetheless, I've wanted to ski it and I've heard it is good.

From Bern, check out Murren too. It's also impressive.

As for TeleFest, I am not planning on going, but when is it?

Livigno is the 24th to the 31st of March. I am hoping to go for 3 or 4 days. They have partial packages, and I am working out the details with my wife.

Thanks for the info on Murren - I will probably take my 3 year old back to Grindewald for ski school tomorrow.
