I spewed coffee on this one.

The cliche he was trying to quote is "je ne sais quoi." Literally, "I don't know what."

Savoir faire is more ambiguous, literally, "to know to do." Obviously it's an idiom, I've just forgotten what the idiom means. Where's phillipeR when you need him...

I know, I lived in france for a few years....but that shit was funny!
(the phrase has come to mean 'a certain something, undefineable' outside of the literal translation)

Savoir Faire, IMO, means to have a certain panache in how somone approaches an action, an adroitness based on intimate knowledge. I am sure there are subtle differences depending on context.

Yahoo Answers for Je ne se que (one of their spellings): The way it's used is to allude to mystery or a style that can't be duplicated.

I'm still an idiot, but I'm not a moron. Que lastima for me.

that is true, of course, but it is also irrelevant. we cannot avoid our tendency to be curious - it's what makes us human. But we can also choose to say that the details are none of our business.. and set aside the curiosity.

so in my case, a part of me really wants to take doug up on his offer to get the details via PM, especially after viewing that powerpoint presentation with all the photographs. I was really emotionally struck by that. But I'm not going to, because it really is none of my business and I've got nothing to gain by knowing and he has nothing to gain by telling me. it would therefore be tasteless an inappropriate for me to ask for it in private. to try to bring it out in public would be downright wrong. So I deny my desire to do so, just as I deny myself that extra scoop of ice cream, deny myself the pride of winning an argument, deny myself a night out with friends if it means neglecting responsibilities.

I think it's very unfortunate that concerned maggot was unable to do the same, and then this crap goes down as a result. The worst part is he knew what he was doing - it was wrong to do it, or he would have done it by his regular username. Yet he did it anyway..

Je ne sais quoi = what Rideit said.
    Savoir faire = know how.
    Jena Sequa = Mormon pornstar.

    Word.

I have long suspected the over-generosity and willingness of maggots to throw money at each other would blow up like this. It's unfortunate that it happened surrounding such a tragic event. We all have our own problems that we must take care of. The only time i have ever donated was to send Marshal to the summit, because he is one of my best friends, and even that was half because I owed him lunch and a beer. I have been following this out of sympathy, but gave no money. As far as I have seen, Shmoe has not solicited a dime. He has only asked for emotional support - you have all just given freely, for which you should be commended. But, when you gave money, you didn't ask for the details (did you expect them to be pretty?). Why ask now? If a lesson was to be learned on his behalf, Shmoe is learning it in the most difficult way. Leave it at that. If you feel your money was not well donated, then be more discerning in the future instead of being so quick to jump on the "nice guy list."

I give only my condolences to Shmoe and the families and friends affected by DW's death and am sick at the sight of this thread.

Most likely, Concerned is a person(s) who knows Schmoe and could take a 20 minute drive to ask the hard questions face to face - and get all the answers. What's missing is the balls to do so, or write this up under their own names.

Of course there's more than meets the eye here. Although so many have hopped up on the high horse, inside their brain everyone who knows this story has speculated as to why it happened.

Maybe they were looking for the clue, the something they could have done to avert disaster. Maybe they saw themselves in what happened and did some personal soul searching. Maybe it was analytical, so they looked at the "facts" and in their mind 1+1 <> 2. Maybe they sat in judgment and made themselves feel better about their own lives, or maybe they were looking to place blame.

If you're a skeptic and a cynic, don't be so quick to put up your cash...

Too many people here love to see "paypal sent" next to their username. It's won't assuage the guilt of not being a friend to them before and your coin doesn't mean shit if it comes with conditions or worse yet a spiteful tax.
This needs to be on another page.

I ain't perfect myself, but y'all should just stick to skiing and joking around...it's a SKI forum.....no offense to the nice peeps I've met. This place is no different that any other retarded forum around, although I know you guys are in fucking love with it. That's my opinion after this mess....and there's the disclaimer. Even the jokes have fallen off lately with all the rookies....at least the TRs will keep me here. And the bike forum. And the padded room. Fuck, I'm stuck.

Roo, if you're a dick when I finally meet you, I'm gonna pee on your shins.
Dude, who the fuck has been a dick to you?

No one who has any idea who you are, I bet. But wait... no one knows who you are. You even pull your hat down so no one can see your face in your POWDER profile, and yet you're surprised you don't get treated like royalty.

    Odd.

edit: ok that was harsher than necessary, but seriously, who has been a dick to you in person?

exactly. i didn't hide behind a cowardly alias and spray off a bit of my own tasteless satire mocking the all-too-familiar turd slingshotting on tgr and powdermag before it. dodging the loamy, stinking, steamy piles that get launched has happened before -- CM (cum muncher) just reset the bar to an all-time low and of course people are up in arms about it.

shmoesmith handled cum muncher's inquisition pretty fucking well under the circumstances -- if he gets through this, he'll manage just fine. he's got my back and the maggots, which is 99.99% more support than cum muncher has.

    Seriously?

The jackass who started this thread is clueless, heartless and tactless.

Shmoe didn't ask for the money.

Everyone gave of their own free will.

Nothing that could emerge will change the fact that his wife committed suicide.

Why anyone would think that the gossipy details preceding her death would somehow entitle us to "answers" is beyond my ability to comprehend.

This is so beyond the bounds of basic human decency that your inability to see why this would represent an all-time low makes me sincerely question your upbringing and intelligence. In what fucking world is this type of shit acceptable? It absolutely blows my mind that not only would someone post this shit, but that others in this alleged community actually view as within the bounds of acceptability.

To the tubestick who started this abortion, and all of those who explicitly or implicitly encourage this via your words or your silent acquiescence, you are all beyond the pale. This crap has no place in a civil society.

Phew! Lucky I already replied in this thread. So that's what David Witherspoon was up to - at a later stage he's going to reveal who viewed this thread without protesting and out them.

Honestly - the type of shit that is contained in the thread starter is no laughing matter. It's so fucking dark and just plain wrong - the author should have just put up a video of himself torturing a puppy and that might have ben easier to see. If your moral compass doesn't point directly towards due "Fucked Up", then you should be looking in the mirror instead of wisecracking b/c it took me to point it out.
