This storm system is now officially named "Crusty Balls"

We're getting our usual high, splitting that flow. My guess is that Tahoe will get something.

Then again, contradicting NOAA is not good odds.

    Our NWAC site says:

...The large upper ridge should remain generally centered over
the south BC coast with the cut off low pressure system
likely lingering over the north California coast....

Now their saying that the models are no longer in agreement which has thrown some doubt into the forecast and offered the possibility of some precip.

    we'll see.

    I'm just doing this to:
    0) Titillate the snow starved Tahoeans.
    1) Be able to say: "I told you so".

Don't hold your breath. It's currently 42 in the Squaw right now with lots of nice rocks! It could be worse! At least we're skiing.

    the Dweeb says "el Nada"

"WARM UP IN PROGRESS MID WEEK...HIGHS IN THE LOW 50S IN MAMMOTH....PATTERN CONTINUES TO BE DRY AS FAR AS THE MODELS CAN SEE.....EL NINO NOW CRASHING AND BURNING OUT IN THE PACIFIC.....THEN COOLER WEATHER THIS WEEKEND AS FICKEL UPPER CUT OFF SPINS AND DEFYS PREDICTION......POSSIBILITY OF A FEW SHOWERS THIS WEEKEND"
THE UPPER RIDGE WILL BE LOCATED OVER CALIFORNIA THIS AFTERNOON AND REMAIN THROUGH WEDNESDAY. A VERY WEAK UPPER LOW WILL BRING A LITTLE COOLING AND SOME CLOUDS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A STRAY SHOWER BETWEEN LATE THURSDAY AND SUNDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS WHAT I CALL A NUISANCE SYSTEM.....IT WILL BRING SOME CLOUDS...COOL US OFF AND JUST MAY BRING A FEW SNOW SHOWERS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY.

ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THE MODELS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH THIS SYSTEM IS BECAUSE THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE PATTERN DEVELOPING NEXT WEEK. THE UPPER RIDGE CURRENTLY OVER CALIFORNIA WILL BE RETROGRADING TO 135 WEST IN RESPONSE TO TROPICAL FORCING NEAR 140EAST. SO THE PATTERN WILL ONCE AGAIN GROW COLDER OVER THE FAR WEST AT MONTHS END WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. SOME SORT OF INSIDE SLIDER PATTERN MAY BE IN THE MAKING...OR WE JUST MAY GET AN OFFSHORE LOW AS REX BLOCKING IS BEING HINTED AT BY THE MODEL "MEANS" THIS MORNING. IF A WEAK LOW HAPPENS TO GET OFF SHORE WE MIGHT GET LUCKY AND GET SOME LIGHT SNOW OUT OF IT AT MONTHS END.

THE LONGER RANGE PATTERN ACCORDING TO THE 00Z GFS 23RD TUESDAY SHOWS THE AMPLIFACATION OF THE WEST COAST RIDGE AT ABOUT 130-135WEST DELIVERING BITTER COLD ARTIC AIR MAINLY TO THE EASTERN 2/3RDS OF THE COUNTRY BY MONTHS END AND INTO THE FIRST WEEK OF FEB. THIS CONTINUES THE DRY PATTERN OVER THE FAR WEST WITH AN OFFSHORE FLOW OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

IN THE EVEN LONGER RANGE,(FEBRUARY 5TH TO THE 9TH) ED BERRY SUGGESTS THAT TROPICAL FORCING MAY MIGRATE TO 120WEST...IN WHICH CASE THE UPPER RIDGE RETROGRADES TO 150EAST...THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS BLOG KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.....;-)

Ok, ok, we can go by carriage, but you're not one of those rare Amish-Mormons that can't have beer either are you? (can Amish have beer? I have no idea, I guess it'd be ok as long as it's brewed in the old style...)

And what's with your beard fixation? Is it from your Oedipal complex?

Wow, I had no idea what that meant so I had to Wiki it.

    Props to the obscure reference?
