Skied friday and sunday. (blacked out on saturday.) Sunday was great. Best day of the year. Spent the afternoon with snowsprite - we hiked up Ram's Head and skied that (I've never done that before, very fun) - plus the views from the summit of killington were amazing. Did equally amazing things to my bases on catwalk (thankfully no core shots) and was thrilled that the season was finally starting..
I hadn't read the extended forecast. When it rained on Monday and I looked to see more rain coming, I was just devastated.
WTF?... Is this a CU reunion? I was there then, too. BARCH 91'
Lived on the Cascadilla Gorge in the building that was about to fall in. Lots of fun bombing Lambda Chi with our "funnelator", and holy shit, loved those PMPs!!!
PS- Sugarbush and Middlebury were great this weekend. Nice x-country up there, too.
Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!
Saturday and sunday were great. Yeah it rains. It rains every new year. We all know it. And we all know the weather sucks. Except HighwayStar, who just likes to talk about how rad devils fiddle skied this weekend. So do we really need to keep posting about the rain? Its the same argument everytime. Someone says it sucks, then someone says you suck, and then everyone whines until the red sox come up and then we bitch about the yankees.
Fuck it. I'm gonna go frostbite 470's for the rest of the winter.
The only thing worse than the feeling that you are going to die is the realization that you probably won't.
Arepas rule.
Had a random meet-up with Vinman on the Summit chair Saturday followed by boot to knee deep fresh most of the afternoon on reserved trails at SB North. Dined on soft chowder at SB South Sunday before a hike to the closed Castlerock delivered 1700' of boot/knee deep 10th tracks on Middle Earth.
Drank beers and broke bread with good friends for NYE before heading out to a bar and oggling a ridiculously hot au paire and some quasi-lesbians. Came outside to a steady freezing rain at 18 degrees F and the snow guns blaring. Bizarre. Roads were too icy to make it home safely. Slept in car with wife. Happy New Year, baby.
All in all, it was a great fucking weekend.
You know, if this winter were merely below average, meaning without quite so much rain, you wouldn't hear a thing from me.
Below average I can handle. I kept saying it'll get better in December. Then I said it'll get better by January.
This is just brutal... at some point, you snap.
I actually skiied in beautiful, falling snow on Saturday, sunny skies and dust-on-crust Sunday, and in feezing drizzle on New Year's Day.
I was surprised how many people were actually skiing on Killington's 3 open trails yesterday. They were only running the Snowdon Quad and Triple too...they put everything else on hold due to high winds.
