    Straightline Camp - Jan 12-14, 2007

I signed up for Gordy's Straightline Camp for the Jan 12-14, 2007 date. I'll be flying in to SLC, probably on Jan 11, but maybe Jan 10.

Beyond that I have no plans worked out. Who else is going to the Jan 12-14 camp? I think Storm Day, ski faster, and Conundrum are.

Anyone want to share lodging/ ground transportation? Thinking maybe cheap motel along I-215, use UTA bus to get up-canyon.

    Yes, I'm going.

Flying in on 11th and fly out last flight on Sun night.

I'm going to be staying at the Cliff in the room Gordy rents for the camp.

El Chup - did you thinking about driving? I did the drive about 15 yrs ago. It is long but gives you some flexible with gear and timing.

Cost on the Cliff Lodge rooms? I thought they were fairly $$$.

I've driven between SLC and Reno several times; I used to live in SLC in 1995-98. Long drive. I was planning on flying because I have lots of Southwest frequent flier tickets.

Is there a flyer or website or anything like that? A buddy of mine and I are contemplating a trip to UT about that time and this could be a good thing in which to partake.

Yes, the cliff is expensive. When I checked a couple weeks ago it was ~$400 a night. Smallest rooms have 2 king or queen beds.

I think that it may included a ticket and transportation from the airport. Given them a call

Conundrum and I will be driving from Boise. We are most likely coming down on January 11th and will go on a tour. I am not sure were we will be staying. I have always stayed in Sandy and it has been very easy to get to Little Cottonwood Canyon.

I pulled some links from last years Mini. Hopefully this will help.

I need to figure out ground transportation (TRAX/ UTA), but if I can get from the airport to here:
    http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/SLCSD

and from that hotel to LCC, both on reasonably-quick public transportation, I might go that route. I'm picking the Marriott because I have Marriott frequent guest points, so I can stay for free...

There's also a Residence Inn near the mouth of LCC/BCC that would be even more convenient but requires more Marriott points (not sure I have enough).

Do you & Conundrum have any interest in sharing hotel space? If so -- I can get a suite (2 room) at the Residence Inn, so plenty of space, plus mini-kitchen.

I'm down for whatever. I stay at the Country Inn in South Jordan for work sometime and it's not bad...maybe $90 for two beds. It's fairly quick to the Canyons but anywhere is good with me. SF or I will drive so we can tote some people along too.

    El C-check your pm's.

Me, Conundrum, and ski_faster have reservations at this Marriott Courtyard in Sandy. I'm flying in on Jan 11 (around 12 noon), they're driving in that day, and I'll be hitching rides with them to/from LCC.

If I can get enough Marriott points accumulated, I may move our reservation to the Marriott Residence Inn at the mouth of LCC, but that'll be later into December if it's even possible.

I signed up with a buddy of mine and we are flying in sometime the 11th (me from NY area, he's working out of Alabama these days). Is everyone planning on bringing gear or using what the fleet the camp has to offer?

Does Gordy's camp offer gear? (news to me...)

    I'm bringing my own stuff.

    Thumbs up

I'll be there... flying in on the 10th - and skiing the 11th, camp is the 12-14th and then flying out the 16th.

Not quite sure where I'll be staying. Was contemplating the GMD in Alta...

And hoping to demo some Rossis....

    Bump for shitty update.

It is looking highly unlikely that I can make it to the camp. I have a case going to trial in Las Vegas on Jan 8, for 2-3 weeks, and settlement is not looking particularly likely. I had thought it was going to get rescheduled, but that didn't happen either.

I sent a PM to Conundrum and ski_faster to reserve some alternate lodging; if I can make it to the camp (i.e. if settlement happens), I'll go -- I'm keeping my reservations at that Marriott.

I'll give Gordy a call and see if I can reschedule to a different camp, or what options I have there....

This sucks. I thought I had this camp locked in, no changing it, and now this happens....

Bump for much improved update: settlement reached!

Sending PM to Conundrum & ski_faster again... sorry for the hassle.

Will see you all at Gordy's "teach El C to be less of a gaper" camp in 2 weeks!

    'nother bump...

Anyone else in this camp know if we are at Snowbird for all 3 days, and if so, do we need tram-access tickets every day? I'm searching for lift tix deals. Snowbird tram tix = $64 at the window, but Utah Superpass = $50ish per day, and includes the tram.

Last year we started at the Bird and then basically voted on where everyone wanted to ski the following days. (Alta instead of the Bird).

    What's the Utah Superpass?
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow, what a Ride!"

Gordy and I exchanged a couple voicemails and he said first 2 days were at Snowbird and 3rd day was both Snowbird and Alta. But I'd guess it would be pretty flexible.

Gordy told me the same thing so Conundrum and I already bought tickets to the Snowbird for the first two days. We got tram and chair because we got a good deal on them.

That link has better prices for the 3-day Superpass than I found elsewhere -- thanks.

I have a voice mail in to Gordy to ask about some other stuff on the camp; I'll ask him on the Snowbird/ Alta tix also.

Would be nice to nail that shit down.Sounds like most of the camps have the same itinerary on the last day.
