didn't expect to get a Roo update in this thread - thanks Mrs.

I hope the snow dance helps. Wish I had tickets to Euro lined up again this year.

Don't fret...this is the first time I've seen snow on the long term forecast for a very, very long time. The way it looks right now some sort of event is going to possibly coincide with my arrival in Austria.

edit - If it does happen I'm going to claim it right now. The snow is following me from Canada. Every Euro mag thus owes me a beer.

I now see the reason Roo left. It's nice of them to let him out on day release though.

Powslut. We're relying on you. Multi-beers in London or Oetz/Serfaus should you bring the goods.

This is very sad. Hope you all had a good Christmas.

I demand a video of the entire next euro summit doing that dance.

    from chat:
[wi3dzmin] : if that doesn't bring snow, it probably bring a rain of retarted fishfrogs

Mrs Roo - if Roo ever decides to come back, let him know that the alias 'Captain Super Retardo' is still available.

it seems to be working somewhat, there is hope on the 6 day forecast now, looking good for the french alps...

spent two days in verb... groomed slopes >1800 m. are not that bad. The slalom stadium faced north has not been groomed, and it's full of moguls that aren't that bad.... if you can avoid rocks and roots. I made some very nice walks, took the car to see the sunset on the mont blanc at the col du montet with my wife... how romantic...
bah we MUST react to this sad lack of decent snow

oooh yes, I am sure that also in verb there might be some SOFT melting crud on south faces in the late afternoon

look... mont gelè lift is open for the rich ones who can pay the full day to a guide for a single descent on slightly tracked but still nice soft snow. I decided I am not rich enough (and most of all... all my friends which a guide diploma were away... bah!) so I used skins

in any case.... good to hear from you, alastair

I went to Grands Montets again this morning. It sucked so much bone, I went and skied springlike groomers at Le Tour. And bust my lip on some rogue boilerplate. Fun up until then though.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK UNTIL TUESDAY JANUARY 02 2007
Sunday : changeable - scattered cloud crossing over - slightly milder.
Monday : morning showers - sunny spells spreading out in the afternoon.
Tuesday : snowy - dropping temperature - outlook is still uncertain.
Forecast reliability : fairly good until Saturday - poor thereafter.

nice day again on the glacier but the CROWDS have finally found it out. tons of gapers everywhere which i took the liberty to document.

gaper #1 - completely clueless about how a drag lift works

gaper #2 - captain purple fartbag (yes, he broke the drag lift)

I really wish you guys would get your share. I can't bring myself to book a trip with the current snow bias to North America.

    A purple 1 piece. Classic.
    Those are vintage.

The first gaper understood drag lift too literally.
Too bad he fell on the arrival, because he couldn't figure out how to unload either.

Thanks for posting Ripz, they were the highlight of my day, unfortunately.

    I'm back home

This thread begins with Subtle saying "The direness will end."

I really really hope that it will end. I'm back home in Graz, too frustrated by the conditions to come out skiing until it snows again.

Sölden was OK, crowds were getting large towards the end, but my brother and I found some soft spots and jibbed with the local in the park.

considering the options - the snow was great!

seriously, the snow is fine on the glacier. a bit sketchy in the combe, but well skiable. it's all about the pass right now. if you got a season pass, it's a nice day out. if you don't have a season pass, you might have a hard time convincing yourself that it's worth 55 CHFs.

    leaving for another adventure shortly...

Looking very stormy for scotland: http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/brack0.gif
Severe Gale- Storm force winds forecast for tonight and then through New Years Eve. Winds expected to top 120MPh on the mountains, 80-90 on the coast.
Sunday night though Monday might see low level snow.
Friggin ironic if I can't fly back to CH because of snow and storm damage.

Th point of this post: well, looks like some decent snow for scottish centres but importantly it indicates the synoptics are changing fairly drasticaly. This manky High pressure is drifting off and there is an active atlantic pushing through. Luckilly with a jet that is slightly further south and this should bring in some cool zonality with system passing from NW to SE. This should give both scotland snow and the northern alps.

    bring it on
