More Eastern Austria Photos (Stoderzinken, Steiermark - same thread as Subtle's picture):

Although the most telling thing is the comparison between Stoderzinken on October 28:

the show started with a couple of guys drawing the movie poster/cover with graffiti on a blank canvas while a lone 50-something joe satriani wannabee guitarist played slow lead lines over spacey atmospheric music. (at this point i really wished i would've brought my camera). the graffiti end result was pretty impressive. then a couple of guys in "police" outfits came out and took pictures and took the canvas away. yeah, kinda cheesy, i tried to liven it up by shouting 'art is not a crime' but the swiss were nonplussed.

the movie itself was a mixed bag. the ski/snowboard shots were stunning, i believe most were taken around verbier, the bec des rosses and such. but they tried to get artsy and mix in overlays of guys doing graffiti work "draw me a line theme" during the ski sequences. lots of talk over the scenes with cheesy lines like "it's all about the feeling" yada yada. as al said, if TGR flims were hard core porn, this would be soft core, done tastefully. if you are interested in a film that showcases the alps with some very nice photography, look out for this film.

    Hey Ripz,

I have finally setteled down in Lausanne- I am sharing a flat at Avenue Mon Repos #2, right near the centre. Been here a few weeks now and getting to know my way around.

I went to see dessine-moi une ligne as well, a nice mellow ski-flick. I thought you might be there but had no way of finding you. My new flatmate Yurig is friends with Geraldine Fasnacht- they go skydiving togther, I had a quick chat with her but my french is minimal.

Anyway, I need to get some work done but will speak later about lift passes etc.

sunday is gonna deliver, but it's back to warmth in the nortern alps concernign midterm outlook. the western alps, above 2200-2400m i'd guess, will get it warm but moist, so maybe they'll get a base in france this year.

Just returned from Slovakia - Tatry Mountains got snow above 900 - 1000 m with a fresh dump Thursday night. Nothing open yet, the base is still pretty thin.

look like there's going to be a warm and wet patterns setting up here for the next couple of weeks. big low pressure forming over iceland. over 2000 meters we could see some strong accumulations, but you're going to have to go VERY high to get it.

and on iceland itself it's going to be absolutely nuking. norway might do ok out of this too, but it depends on temps as so much there is so low.

We might get snow up in the mountains, but along the coast we won't have winter temperatures for a couple of weeks. Managed two ski days at the turn of oct./nov., but now the weather is more resembling spring. Meteorologists predict the winter temperatures will be 2-3 degrees above normal (40 yr average).

next week could deliver some base for the western aps from cham to la grave above 1500-2000m. maybe the snowlevels will be lower by the end of the week.
there will certainly be some precip.

southern alps might get wet too.

Nevis Range today (18" at 2000ft, 3ft or so at 4000ft.
More snow forecast for the week, with some slight freeze-thaw action should help a base form. Any UK mags going to get some turns in this week?

Have you seen any long term predictions for the season in europe? Is it expected to snow a lot , or less.. or should we all just migrate to Kamchatka?

Apparently we'll get a decent cover by Thursday but it will almost all disappear by the end of the weekend (iso 0° back to +3000m)
    Because they are there
