Green River Narrows (Gnars) Race - 06

Took the long hike in to check out the annual Green River Narrows Race. This river in person makes you realize that the pictures don't do it any justice. The asshole puckers up just looking at it from the shore. Then add the sound of the water echoing through the deep gorge.

    The hike in:

I'll start off with some shots from the boof above the main drop in Gorilla:

This guy rolled over on the drop and broke his paddle (If you look closely you can see the paddle in the pictures):

He pulled out and was headed for a sure swim off of the main drop in Gorilla, a trip nobody wants to take, someone on the shore was on the spot with a rope and they pulled him in just in time:

More Carnage in the same spot:

The next shots are from Go Left:

This guy took a beatdown before getting it straightened out:

This guy got turned around and actually ended up going right of the rock, backwards:

    The notch above the Gorilla:

    About to take the drop:

This boat decided to go at it alone:

    Nice shots.

The guy who swam at Pencil Sharpener is EXTREMELY lucky he didn't end up swimming through the notch and off the main drop.

Anyone happen to know who won the various classes?

He was very, very close to washing through the notch. If it wasnt race weekend with people on shore with ropes he would have.

I was standing right by the notch and I thought he was gone. He was upside down for a long time and he wasnt trying to hand roll. I can imagine he was contemplating whether or not he should hand roll and go at the notch and the flume without a paddle or try to swim to shore.

Someone else was evac'ed out. He went over the flume upside down. They had to roll him up and he was out cold.

As for who won, I think all of the winners are posted on boatertalk.

    Kick ass TR, CB.
Missed you at Cat on Sat, though.
Got any more pics? Even if they are crappy.

I have more and I'll try to put some up tonight. They are more of the same, but some decent shots.

Ok, the quality might not be as good on some of these, and you're not getting captions this time, but here's about 20 more:

    Thanks, mang.

BTW, I think these two shots kick some serious ass.

Nice shots! That is such an awesome race, someday I'll have to make it down there for it.

One minor nit - it's spelled 'Gorilla' (unless there were some Zapatistas hiding amongst the boulders).

A few of them were chasing me on the hike out, I decided not to post those pictures.
