    Denver

I'm thinking of moving out to Denver after college for a real job (hopefully a year off skiing first). Its supposed to be a great city for young single people. I'm looking for some inside info on what it's really like and whether it would be a big deal if I moved there without really knowing anyone. Where is the best place to ski (steeps, best snow, etc)? Realistically how far away are the resorts on winter weekends? How bout backcountry? Mountain biking and kayaking in the summer? I grew up in Portland and am also considering Seattle, any comments on how Denver compares to these or how the resorts near Denver compare to those in the NW (besides lighter snow)? Any thoughts would help, thanks

Yeah, it's a big deal! You have to know someone in any city you may move to.

Just imagine if you didn't know anyone. Oh my god, can you imagine? I mean you would be all moved in your new place, and you wouldn't know anyone. And then, oh my god, you would have to go out in the city and meet people. I mean, how would you survive? It would be brutal! Oh the humanity!

On winter weekends they move the resorts closer to Denver so it's easier for the Texans and gapers to get up to the hill.

The backcountry in Denver is fierce and out of this world. Green Mountain is still looking for a first descent on it's backside.

Just because you haven't heard about it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. And trust me, none of your gay-joe-ski-mountaineer-dude "rules" are gonna invalidate it.

WRONG! I claimed the first descent of the service road chute on Green last winter. Beeeyotch. Now Mt. Falcon, OTOH...

Living in Denver sucks. The city sucks. The people suck. It is too far from the mountains (like hours away). The weather is terrible.

    -5 mountain pass $369 (Breck, Basin, Keystone + 10 days Vail/Beaver Creek)
    -Winter Park/Copper pass $349?

Those are your two best bets from Denver.

A-Basin is 1 hour (dependent on traffic and road conditions)
Breck/Vail is closer to 2 hours

You definitely want to be able to go midweek.

In terms of BC, Colorado snowpack is sketch, so buy a beacon and take an avy class. Lots of car-accessible BC i.e. Loveland and Berthoud passes, lots of BC accessible through boundary gates at the resorts.

    Good one, HomerJay,

    Colorado sucks, right?
Utah has more snow, but I don't think I could deal with the establishment.

I'm leaving CO in January, powski3 can have my spot

Yikes...you shouldn't even mention such feats! Attempting a ski decent of Mt. Falcon is pretty much suicidal.
