I bought 3 pair of socks and the shipping was either $6.99 or $7.99, can't remember. Like the socks, but that is a little pricey on the shipping. On bigger stuff, I think their rates have been pretty ok, its the little stuff that is expensive.

    Here is my .02

I would pay a membership fee or so sort of dues to:

    a. know what the next couple of items in the SAC queue are and to be able to pre-order these items.

    b. be able to open a shopping cart on Sunday, pay for the items all week and have them shipped all together when I close the cart on the upcoming saturday. Repeat.

That is an excellent way .. for me to piss away the rest of my cash!

I make a lot of international purchases and spend too much on shipping.

GR8 idea, but I am not sure I can wait to hit the magic number before I get to see my newly acquired gear.

Exactly. I think they should build part of the shipping cost into their onsite offering price. Then make shipping a flat rate of say $2.95. This way everyone knows what the shipping will cost before they check out. See: overstock.com

I feel bad for complaning now... I just bought a jacket from bc.com with the Maggot discount- from $79 down to $54 and free shipping, and it already shipped today! BC.com definitely kicks major ass.

if product cost + shipping cost = good deal, i buy. if not i pass.

if its a hot item, someone here will probably miss the deal, so buy 2 and sell the other one here, you can probably recoup some of the shipping expense that way

these headlamps are reproduing faster than they are selling, this can mess up the SAC/Time continuum

    Appeared: 30 minutes ago

    Black Diamond Zenix Headlamp

Absolutely the highest LED technology available in hands-free lighting. ( toggle )

The Zenix Headlamp is the first all-LED headlamp to introduce "HyperBright" LED technology. These HyperBright LED's are compact, incredibly energy efficient and provide five times more light than traditional LED's. Their energy efficiency results in a reduced environmental impact, because battery changes are less frequent and LED's never need to be replaced. Black Diamond designed the Zenix Headlamp to generate an intense, focused beam of LED lighta beam that rivals that of lower-wattage xenon bulbs. This lamp incorporates a lensed HyperBright LED that is flanked on each side by a SuperBright LED; a switch allows the user to toggle between the SuperBright LED's for proximity illumination and the lensed HyperBright LED for beam-throwing light. Unlike xenon bulbs, LED's never need to be replaced. Waterproof to IPX standards and weighing a mere 3.2 ounces, the Zenix sets a new standard in backcountry hands-free lighting. A great option for the user who wants an energy efficient, beam-projecting headlamp.

    x2. WTF?

Shipping costs what it costs, and is independent of the cost of the item being shipped. SAC shipping rates are spot on, not jacked up in any way. Regardless of where you buy item "X," you're going to pay either 1: sales tax, or 2: shipping. Go where the price is best and the shipping price is within reason. I commend BC for not profit shipping like a good percentage of online retailers do.

For a slightly different (but relevent topic) I want to say that I used to check SAC every day, ussually within an hour after midnight, but since you guys started doing the bottomless thing, I never check it any more. At first the bottomless thing seemed cool, but now it just seems complicated, and I never bother with it.

I would like to see the bottomless thing maybe once every week, on a random day or something like that.

I do remember buying those Saloman AK Lab Swallowtails and getting a shipping cost of only $4.60 USPS. Sometimes its amazing. The cheaper the item, the less efficient the shipping cost. Mostly I think they charge minimum real cost. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Its your choice whether to pull the trigger.

Yes, that's true...and it is true that shipping costs often go down the more you ship. That is what we are adressing here.

The stuff you are balking at paying shipping for is still selling out, so why would they bother discounting?
I didn't read this entire thread, because I was busy pimping out the IM Alerts, which are FAF (Fast As Fuck) now, but I can tell you that you are incorrect.

SAC is about moving a lot of one item at a time. Look at the shipping for all the items in a week and you can see that they are, on average, pretty spot on considering warehouse picking, the packing material, the receipt, the label and what we pay the shipping companies.

Also, to the OP, perhaps a SAC suggestion thread would do better on the SAC forums? You can also request exactly what item you'd like to appear on SAC next, because that always gives us a good laugh.

This issue has been discussed, debated and has become cliche on the sac forums, gearaddict.com and a half dozen sites all centered around SAC. Its kinkd of like the ultimate SAC jong question, so, yeah; post it there. We never get tired of hearing it. SAC Sheriff, RJ Redundant and others have all explained why its not going to happen. I stil don't know what PhUnk's alias is over there, or at least I haven't paid attention.

Well, once again, I am sure more people have viewed it here. There is power in numbers. I do think a lot of valuable opinions have been expressed in this thread regarding the effect of shipping cost on purchase frequency, and I would assert that anyone in marketing would find that valuable, no matter what the source of the input. I see many, many thousands in lost sales based on the 10% who comment on this as compared to the 90% who feel the same, and don't post....and that is truly talking turkey. Just ask your accountant!

x3. This should be called the Sandy Vagina thread. SAC shipping is spot on as the weas said. The priority option is usually cheaper for one item, if it's small. The thing I'm impressed with for SAC shipping is for ordering multiple of the same item, the shipping cost only goes up a small percentage. So, when I ordered the bottle opener Reef sandals for my girl, my brother and father for christmas, the shipping went from like $5 for one pair, to $7 for three. Very reasonable. If you need to, buy more than one and sell for a very small profit to cover your shipping. Otherwise quit bitching, cause these guys are hooking you the fuck up. The holding idea would be great in a world where I didn't have to work and heli skied all winter. But in the real world, these guys are moving thousands of products a day for uber cheap and I can only imagine what kind of logistic nightmare combining shipping on different items would be.

Hmm. I have only ordered one item from SAC, and the shipping was $17.00 for one pair of sunglasses...that would have cost $2.50 to ship from USPS. The difference between $17.00 and $2.50 is....profound. And I generally don't pay retail, so the 'huge hookup' was pretty close to pro-form. I appreciate immensely what they do...trust me. But any system can be improved, to the benefit of both consumer and supplier. And that is a 'sandy vagina' issue that affects both parties...a little lube could make the 'act' more desireable for both. Mutual satisfaction is a recipe for success!

Are you in ID or CAN?

I don't know why they hate you, but my USPS shipping on a $28 nixon watch recently was $5.50 priority (they only ship priority, which is $4.10 at the cheapest). Very reasonable. That's consistant with eveything else (and there's been a lot) I've ordered. Krypton boots, $8.28 UPS ground. Arbor Snowboard, $9.28 UPS ground. AK Rocket Lab Skis, $13.36 UPS ground. That's Utah to Portland, OR.

Shit, I need to hold back.

Wow, you are experiencing a far different shipping quote structure than I have experienced, I (obviously) am confused as to why. Consider yourself fortunate!
