Hey pechel, stop and look who is telling you to change your oil at 3k.

Hint: It's not the auto makers. They are the people who have the most to gain by you changing your oil frequently.

edit: I'm sticking with the manf. since they want to have a rep of building good, long lasting motors.

edit edit: And cleaning up gasoline has nothing to do with it either.

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Personally, I'm shocked that the engineers behind Mobil1 motor oil would conclude that you should change your oil more often.

oil is cheap, what maybe a dollar a quart?
no ones getting rich off that.

as ive said I dont follow their reccomendation because I know better.
im still having trouble beleiving the OPTIMUM schedule for a cars first ever oil change is 10,000 miles.
id never run oil that long in a standard engine.

    edit
ok im going to chill now
this post was my point really
kinda blew this out of proportion
dont let me stop anyone from doing what he\she wants

No, it's the service centers like Jiffy Lube that are telling you to change the oil, and they make $30-50 a pop

    my only point
is a cars first oil change at 10,000miles the BEST procedure?
I question that because I know better.

all i can say is i've been involved in motor builds, and I would always do a change within the first 500 miles on a new car. all sorts of stuff goes into coating the bores to prevent rust during manufacturing and such. ick.

and OEM vs built, "built" motors usually have forged pistons as opposed to cast ones for strength and better life under the chance of detonation. Since forged pistons expand at a different rate, it is crucial to seat the rings properly. this is why the viscocity of dino oil helps with the proceedure.

Exactly. Mine said to vary speed for the first X# of miles. In other words, no road trips with cruise control.

Just buy an Audi, no change needed, you just have to add.
