Feels like a spring day on the groomers today at Deer Valley.
Huge thank you for this Ikon pass and the privilege to be able to ski here for the first time.

Skiing Park City tomorrow, anyone want to meet up?
I will be at The Can with my wife, but if you see a guy with a black jacket and helmet (with a dire wolf sticker) and stickers up skis, say hi, ask for change and maybe we can take a lap.

Glad you made it dude. Rip a turn or two for me.Originally Posted by mall walker;[emoji[emoji6[emoji640
One of the guys on Parking Crew had a nasty spill a couple days ago. He was found by the Cat Crew crawling down mambo around [emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]p.
Brain injury, broken leg, broken ribs.
He isn’t covered under workers comp and I’m unsure if he had insurance.
Consider helping if you can.

anyone know what is up with solitude terrain season openings? No milk run, everygreen, or honeycomb in mid-January??? Getting really bored of lapping the same stuff everyday

So good to be home
They've provided various reasons why things have been slow to open and why operations seem a little off this year. I think I've read the following: not enough snow to open Milk Run and Parachute, too much snow to open new terrain, it's a lot of work to open terrain, we're making snow in that area, avy danger is too high, snow is too dense, snow is too light to groom, people ducking ropes so they can't open Powderhorn until they run routes in Milk Run (but not to open it), they have a unique resort/topography that makes control work difficult (i.e., all lifts except Link are in avalanche terrain).
I'm sure there's plenty I don't understand about getting terrain open and I have to trust that they know what they're doing. I'm trying to be patient, but include me in the group that's frustrated. I seem to recall plenty of low-snow years with the entire mountain open by now. Maybe my memory is foggy.
This operational update was shared earlier:

Im going to use my leftover bitchticket from last year on this place. I made the expensive error of assuming they still offered the wasatch benefit, which they havent in years. So i paid 193 dollars to ski groomers so i could see a visiting friend. I do think solitude has better groomers than snowbird or brighton, if you actually like turning.
Not sure why they havent opened honeycomb yet, but brighton hasnt opened milly bowl either. Im guessing snow didnt play along and they dont have as aggressive of a gameplan to open in low tide/stubborn avy conditions. The Kachina slide at Taos a few years back comes to mind.
Also brighton has made some changes to their boundary signage that feels like a potential sea change for the vibe up there.

Being that you should learn from accidents while skiing - was he wearing a helmet?
(I'm not victim blaming and this sounds awful and only wish him the best in his recovery, rather am curious if this is another data point to support wearing a helmet OR this happened with a helmet on and you aren't invincible despite wearing safety gear)
its certainly a bummer and frustrating for their customers. I think we are seeing the difference in terrain management styles play out this year with a pretty problematic PWL, Alta/Bird basically let their skiers go wherever they like and even put in boot packs (low T to High) to assist their skiers to access terrain, which leads to skier compaction. Solitude and PC don't do that as much, partially because I don't think their lift layout/terrain allows for a similar laisse-faire approach, and both have been slow to get their avy terrain opened this year.
it also sounds like solitude had a lot of rope duckers this year per the GMs letter and I did see a lot of heat on strava maps of people touring up to summit and honeycomb in the early season, disregarding their uphill policy, which I don't think helps the situation.
Regardless of the excuse, you can put in the group of frustrated customers.
