Anybody interested in a mag off-grid ski cabin at Iron Goat TH a few minutes from Stevens? 2 acres and $300k seems pretty reasonable.

Oof. $300k for a fully offgrid, zero plumbing cabin right next to other people, that appears to need a lot of ongoing maintenance/upkeep, where you still have to drive to a ski area that consistently gets parked out by 8am? Youre basically going car camping each time... and paying $300k for the camping spot. Makes crystals $10k/year RV spots look downright affordable.

$300k buys a lot of flights, hotel stays and lift tickets to areas quite a bit better than Stevens Pass.

Quit it with the logic here.

Yeah the limited ski area parking almost totally kills the appeal of staying off-mountain, especially if you have a family and don't want to have to all come and go at the same time. Multiply that by insane RE costs and.... I'm out.

    Uh. Guy does not cabin....

A wood stove, 4 walls and a reliable place to overnight within 15 mins of your home mountain? That's worth something. And it's a huge upgrade from sleeping in the back of your truck, that's for sure. And it's a hugggggge upgrade from wrastling your gremlins into the car at O-dark thirty to guarantee a parking spot. And for an effective cost of 24k a year split however many ways...it's not nothing but it's not unreasonable. But, you can do better for the same money in Index.

To each their own as they say. But this isnt just offgrid, its entirely unplumbed (and would be a PITA+ $$ to get that permitted/built), and it has none of what i consider to be the benefits of an off-grid home (100ft from a busy highway, neighbors 100ft away, still dealing with a traffic nightmare to go recreate 2+ days per week). You could buy a baller RV setup and have $200k left over to travel with instead of that place if all you're looking for is 4 walls and a reliable place to overnight.

As you alluded to, you can do much better just down the road. Or in a number of other places in the state/region.

Your baller RV set up can easily be financed. Your off grid cabin, less so. However, if you got the cash and like shitting in a bucket, do it--you get a bulldozer in the deal!

Memory dates back to 04-05 when I arrived, but it happens more years than not to the point that I plan my work schedule around it. Usually 1-2 wks. Not a rule, obv. And yeah, Predator yesterday was Primo.

A period of high pressure is pretty normal after new year in the PNW.

January is always dryer it seems. I usually tell my kids that the season really gets going on President's Day.

It does seem that January is usually cold and dry for some reason. Late December is the best cold weather storms . Late Feb- April is good .

Some friends and I made it up to the top of pumice ridge on the CD route yesterday. Crusty snow overall, but it still skied ok. I snapped a pic of a group of 4 over on the Easton, but they were the only other humans we saw all day.

The snow was generally crusty but still skied ok. It was kind of like riding a groomer.

Yeesh, doing a tour with graybird touring at crystal end of feb, had the idea it'd be nice to wake up at the mountain/within an hour of the place to make the morning a little less stressful but there is absolutely nothing available close by that doesn't require multi day stay or cost $$$$. I'm surprised no one has opened up a hostel in enumclaw/greenwater or something, seems like a easy win.

I’ve had much better cold weather skiing in late January, February and early March than December here. This year has been notable in the Wenatchee Mountains as we haven’t had significant wet and warm storms and well above average snowfall. We’re set for base here, better than at any time last season.

More parking madness at Stevens today. Felt like racers and their families took up lots of capacity as lift lines were pretty mild.

Skied lots of nice fresh, deep, and not too heavy pow on the upper mountain.

Feels like everyone comes to Stevens to stick to the groomers, which is just fine by me and my crowd.

Also, the race course exit at the bottom of Big Chief was a disaster of forcing normal skiers right into the impromptu race viewer gallery. You would think that they would know how to make all the work since they practically have a race there every weekend.
In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...

Same vibe at Baker today - sleeper mini pow day - excellent conditions, White Salmon was full when we got there at 9:20ish, up top was busy as well, then all the fun stuff on the mountain was empty. It was such a perfect day.

For the observant in the crowd: How late do the parking Nazis at Crustal prowl the lots? No res. required from noon on... so maybe like 11?
