    [/quote] Historical data reveals that with a 42(?) average snowpack for last week, 41 lifts and 177 trails ( 50% of the mountain ) should have been planned too be open, compared to 18% actually available [ /quote]

    well,,, Maybe with a full workforce on the job -
    PCMRs and VR never promised operations would not be affected ;

    The question was asked up-thead whether skiing at PCMR was 'crossing the picket line' ;
    anyone over the age of twenty-five knows a picket line is more than just for scabs. !
    I count five options - maybe six - within an hour or ninety minutes of Park City.

    Vail Resorts misplayed this - but it will be the ParkCity community that will pay the greatest price - I think -
    Unless our collective memory is so Short that in two years this is forgotten, and people that think it would be fun to go to 'America's Largest ski Resort' come back by the tens of thousands...

    ( Not a scene that I want any part of. )

    Good luck to the patrollers -
    ( If this impasse continues after January 20th, I do not expect the incoming Administration to have anything positive for the union )

    Good luck.

    Come one, come all....unlimited parking.

    Soon they'll find out that less snow means skiing on one of several groomers to get back to the lift, from mid-mountain down, with the other 10 million people that chose poorly.

    FWIW, chatting with holiday guest demographic on the lift rides at Big Sky, they were all aware of the strike and the woes in PC.

    I haven't really kept up on this story.. PROPs to Ski Patrol for standing up to the corporate dogs that don't want to share their bowl of food.

    Makes you wonder if the boardroom executives ever ski their own resorts... anyone who knows what Ski Patrol really does would try to double those veteran patroller's salaries

    I was thinking that even the J1’s got screwed royally, if they happened to pick Park City. I’m sure there are really no hours available for many of them, either at the resort, or anywhere in town.

    Regarding any beef. I'd rather see the thread stay on topic. DM's are wide open.

    Regarding PC. I have long since given up on trying to change peoples minds on issues, especially this one. The work is legit, its skilled labor, requires continuing education, and can involve high risk. Anyone arguing otherwise has it wrong. Experienced professional patrollers deserve at the very least, a livable wage and some sort of health insurance. My issues with the trend of union representation in the industry, are the industry disassociated suits representing them. The whole process, and the broader issue it itself is already so contentious and the copy/paste manipulative tactics these outside organizations use literally destroy relationships that were forged by the common ground they claim to embrace rebranded as "solidarity"
    (It's also my opinion that the NLRA is criminally overdue for reform)

    For example, encouraging guests not to eat or stay at on hill establishments. What about the service industry workers who rely on their income and even tips? Or the broke ass lifty that is getting sent home because lift ops is overstaffed with 20% of the hill open? What are they getting out of this deal?

    Like everyone here, I care about skiing and want the industry and the culture to thrive, I just think there are better ways to organize and water our own grass.

    That is all.
    I have heard that things are very fucked now that The Mayor isn't running the show.

    I thought what they get charged in rent was just a break even on what they "get paid". Didn't actually think they walked with any cash. I'm sure they all booked round trip flights, but TBH, 99% of the one's in Vail are straight up trust funders on a party vacation.

    Maybe being in IT for so long has messed up my perspective, but a *senior* manager position in a resort town and the upper end is 105K?

    Here it’s like 50/50. Many of them are certainly upper class (I wouldn’t necessarily say trust funders, but there is some of that). But quite a few come from smaller, very much not wealthy towns, live 4 to a room, and go back with way more cash than they ever could at home. For instance, the Peruvian minimum wage was just raised to $302 dollars a month. Basically, the darker their skin, the more likely they are to absolutely need the work.

    (Good barometer: If they know how to ski, rich. If not, 50/50).

    I thought that too. That would be low for SLC, much less PC.

    today you learned that the outdoor industry =/= general salary ranges for similar titles.

    the tone of this is just another poor attempt at asking for people to be nie.

    Thank you for this, Phall -

    it will be interesting to see how the union responds
    ( in simple terms, 7/hr would double their pay from 2021 ;
    I suspect there is another version of 'the truth' that is somewhere in between ) ;

    regarding the executives, I will only offer > I suspect the executive 'elevator' is a ride a guy like me cannot even imagine.

    g'bye, Vail Resorts - Not a scene I want any part of.

    Good luck to the patrollers --

    I have a trip planned at the end of the month to Park City. Is this something I should consider cancelling?

    For anyone who actually knows the numbers, how many ski patrollers would be eligible for the full amount (if $7 an hour were sincere?)
    And not just at PC, but all Vail resorts?
    Then we could calculate that number against what a projected annual payroll increase that would be.
    Then we could examine the posted profits of VailCo, and then calculate what percentage it might be of that number.
    Then, for fun, we could look at executive compensation.

    PARK CITY (and all) SKI PATROLLERS DESERVE MORE.

    It sounds like the $seven/hr is an equivalency so I’m assuming those are costs to the resort outside of direct compensation. I bet there would be some folks who may see that amount given a lot of this is based off more senior patrol not being properly adjusted when starting wages were raised a few years ago, but please correct me if this is incorrect.

    guys -
    the 7/hr is what management is claiming the union's demand would cost VR -

    reading "between-the-lines" , I believe it has (much) more to do with other compensation ( probably health insurance ) --

    Fuck this arguing over the supposed $7/hr. ‘Trollers starting at $30/hr in PC is fully justified.

    And fuck that clone bitch from PCMR.

    If the pass is already bought (non refundable)... why not still ski there but bring pocket beers and/or eat in town?

    When the grocery store in town went on strike, o didn't throw out the groceries in my fridge in solidarity. I ate them, and then went to the other store in town when I ran out.
