This is the same town lift article cited on the previous page ^^^
though it is not referenced in this article, the "push back" against the "Patrol Support Team" in the four-Patrol letter to Vail Resorts is significant ;
the Keystone Patrol has filed an Unfair Labor Practice complaint for failure to honor a contractual 'wage scale' for returning, veteran patrollers ;
to my reading, the ULP filing is an important step by a union.
I believe the word that is used in the Patrols' letter is "cease" utilization of the "Patrol Support Team" ;
though these are not union members, the claim is this movement of leadership detrimentally affects the union patrollers ;
it positions the unions to escalate ,,, and it feels to me, like this is a fight VR is ready for.
MTN has lost almost half it's stock value since June (2024) -
Executive bonuses and options have been paid
( while stock options are not worth what they may have been in June, as bonuses they are still of significant value ) ;
But what I wanted to express with this post relating to the cited article is,,, VR never promised operations would not be affected by the strike.
any belief, or idea, or expectation that VR expected to provide normal operations,,, I don't know where that comes from -
to me, the most significant impact was when the lift operators at The Canyons took a day off, and it took two hours to scramble lift op.s
( I think that was last Friday ).
I am for the patroller. and
If this is not resolved by January 17th ( or January 20th ), I do not believe the incoming Administration will be sympathetic to the union(s) ;
Ugh.
finally, I do not believe non-skiers, who scheduled a "$10,000." family ski vacation and were greeted with $328.lift tickets for 17% or 19% of the terrain at the country's " Largest ski resort" are going to have any sympathy for anyone associated with PCMRs ( I don't know that they will necessarily connect it to Vail Resorts ) , but I suspect there are about 20,000 people who will just scratch Skiing off their list.
Good luck to the patrollers.
happy new year (?)
I am sorry for the blog.

(( oh. And dividends were paid, too - ))
And >$700 million in stock buybacks funded with company cash - more discretionary in nature than dividend payments.
That would’ve funded a lot of $2/hr raises.

Yes, nobody makes what they make because they earn it or deserve it. They make what they make because of power. Individual workers have zero power, that's why we have unions. There was a time when enough people understood the imbalance between labor and management to elect politicians who passed minimum wage laws and raised the minimum wage repeatedly, politicians who passed laws supporting unionization and decent working conditions and who enforced those laws. I have been so disappointed by recent elections--politicians have stopped campaigning on the issue and people have stopped voting on the issue. (Biden was more pro union than other Presidents of both parties but no one ever heard about it.) I guess folks are more concerned about trans female athletes than about making a living wage. Now we have a country where working people are at each others' throats while the bosses sit back and cackle and watch their wealth grow. When the owners have all the money and own the politicians all the rest of us have is solidarity.

CNBC Host "Angry" at Vail Resorts Over Park City Strike
Jim Lebenthal blasted Vail Resorts for the skiing experience at Park City Mountain Resort while patrollers are on strike.
Lebenthal explained on the January 2nd episode of CNBC's 'Halftime Report' that he was at Park City Mountain Resort with his family for the holidays. He expressed how "angry" he was towards Vail Resorts for not informing skiers about the ski patrol strike, and that, "less than 20% of the mountain was open during the peak Holiday time," despite over two feet of new snowfall.
Park City Mountain Resort is reporting that 24 of its 41 lifts, and 80 of its 350 trails (roughly 22%) are open on Friday, January 3rd. The resort's website claims that it's open for 'normal operations' despite the lack of open terrain.
For comparison, neighboring resort Deer Valley has 21 of 24 lifts and 83 of its 121 trails (69%) open on January 3rd.

lots of comments on what patrolers are worth. What we are going to see here is what is Vail really getting paying over 6 million to Kirsten Lynch and the others making millions.

That's the thing Reg from CT, I don't know you.
Dozens of others here in this thread have drank, skied, stayed, or hung out with me. The ones that haven't I know a bit from their posts here over the years.
I am aware of the Communication Workers of America but still dint understand how they are germane to this discussion.
You insinuate they are swooping in here and preying on these poor patrollers who don't understand what they are getting into.
This movement is along time coming and people I know and respect for years have been involved.
Sounds like people nationwide are coming together.
Part of it too is after almost 20 years in the tristate. a dozen of those in Fairfield County, Reg from CT is clocked by me as a dbag with a Roley and a Yacht club burgie polo that moves other people's money around and sees people/ labor as commodities.
I will explain. Once they really REALLY pull hard of those bootstraps they too will join the oligarchy.There are a lot of working-class knuckleheads cheering for the oligarchy. Doesn't make much sense.
That simple.

I guess you can always blow yourself up in your cyber truck in front of a Trump hotel.
Edit--I believe he rented the truck.
Data and tourist reactions. I guess that during the holidays, you just have to assume that gapers dominate the hill

Old school mag FOBP and fantastic journalist tonsil varnish has it covered:

RCT are my initials, Woody. No trust fund here. Moved to Big Sky in 2013 alone with about $300 in my bank account. Lived in subsidized housing, ate ground beef and rice, and patrolled (ski and bike) for 6 years because I loved working hard, skiing pow, and helping people who found themselves having a hard day doing activities I love.
Yes I did insinuate that point.
GLTA. Hope the patrollers find what they're looking for in work and life in general.
