No one here bitching about the rain crust? Damn I wanted to get a feeling for BC conditions
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy
Firefighting is a tough and demanding job with a shortened life expectancy. Many peeps may not do well at it as a career, though WFF was (and sometimes still is) something my oldest kid considers.
I work with or otherwise know several retired urban FF’s. They joke about how many quality years they have left in their life. One is not yet 60. They also talk openly about the number of people that have witnessed die while they are trying to save their life and some of the instances of severe human abuse that they’ve had to witness and navigate first hand.
I know one who gets to occasionally work from a skidoo, which are his favorite days of work.

fact.
GoldBoth suspects are 68 years old. One is from Hillsborough, and the other is from San Francisco. One of the suspects purchased a home in Incline Village in 2018 for $1.7 million, public records show. Both suspects were formerly licensed dentists in California, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
Hey, what's life without a little danger.
FAFO
Actually let’s stay tuned and see what comes of this.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.
It's very regional. My buddies that work around the lake have it pretty damned good. My brother in law worked in SF. He's medically retired with full pension at 52. He just had a knee replaced. PTSD is a real thing for a lot of them, too.
That said, I've been a mechanic since I was 15. My body hurts and it doesn't help doing what I do for fun. There is no pension. I've been very fortunate to own several businesses, but that's high stress, too. I love/hate my current gig. It allows me a ton of freedom and very good money, but I've been doing it long enough that I kinda hate cars.
My wife is in finance. That's the gig, but I'm not that smart. Maybe my kids will get that from her. She sure as hell paid the price in public accounting early on.
Life, right? I would have preferred being a trust fund kid. I would have skied a lot more in my 20's.
They have to be getting off on the risk. Otherwise why go back to a place where you know they’re onto you and when apparently the money means nothing.

I got a finance degree and had a job starting with Shearson Lehman (I think that was their name at that point) in the winter of 89. But then brokers started jumping out of windows in October and all of a sudden I was back in restaurants and shortly after ended up being the F&B director for a fairly distinct Florida country club. Didn’t matter since during high school and college in Florida I caught the ski bug.
If I had ended up with a day job in finance I doubt I would ever be in this god forsaken maggot ridden hellhole

So true. Ironically shutting down schools quickly was done to protect the children with the idea being that they may be more susceptible to COVID just like the Spanish Flu. Once that was found out not to be the case, there is no excuse for the slow reopening which did so much harm that no one wants to talk about it.
Now let it snow!
