I haven't gotten on my UT122 quite yet... but 6-12" away from that, so hopefully this weekend.

From a design perspective, they are for sure going to be muchmore similar than different. Built around same construction, same flex pattern and stiffness profile, and similar rocker profile. Both are going to be absolute lightsabers in untracked wild snow.

Where I think the difference will stand out... the 132 just has more taper, so a level up in breakable crust and windskin, but a little more neutral stance too. The 122 has less taper in comparison (but far more than most skis), so a little more able to pressure the tip and a touch more support fore-aft in comparision. And of course, being narrower is a little easier when on an established skin track, where the 132 is (IMO) an absolute dream breaking trail.

Not sure if helpful, but my honest 0.02

Float of the C120 187 vs UT122 190? Wider shovel or more rocker for the win?

R120 beta vs Ultra taper 122
Going to mount the ut with cast. They are light(1848g), flex is nice and supportive but not too stiff. Profile is $$$. Can’t wait to get these out in the wild.
Any chance I can trouble you to share a profile view of those two skis and comment on the flex differences between them? I also have the beta R120s and am looking to validate my decision to order a pair of UT122s.

R120 beta on left ut122on right
Have you skied your R120s yet? Curious your thoughts.
I have the r120 as my resort pow ski. Flex is a nice supple 8/10, carves groomers fantastically for a 120mm ski. The beta profile is my favorite that Marshal pressed thus far, super stable busting chop but the tails release constantly/easily.
I got the ut122s as my travel/Silverton ski. I went back and forth on what to mount them with. I have c113s with ATKs as my dedicated touring rig, so I’m thinking CAST. Perfect for short tours and will be more confidence inspiring inbounds. The profile is like a Spatula had relations with a Lotus and then that child mated with a Renegade, if that makes sense lol. Flex is definitely 9/10

Sincere thanks for this. I haven't skied my R120s yet but after skiing the FR120s a bunch last year I'm hoping that giving up a bit of playfulness in search of stability is what I'll find when I get on the R120s.

Your description of the UT122s makes perfect sense, I'm also thinking of using them as a travel ski that is slightly more versatile than a c132 but still keeps me excited about a flowy, floaty, slashy ski.

BC120 are definately going to be a surfier setup, and a bit less demanding at modest speeds or in the woods. the UT122 is more of an alpine ski. Stiffer, more biased toward carrying speed in open terrain, and slicing through wind/sun effected snow.

Both are awesome powder skis with big windows of use, just the above is my take on where their natural "center point" of performance bandwidth lies.

Personally, (im weird and been skiing tiny boots on big skis for nearly a decade at this point), I'd ski the BC120 on anything from a converted ~1000g skimo boot to a 1500g standard touring boot. I'd probably want at least a 1300g boot ala Ridge Pro, and probably more like at least a radical/hoji/quattro etc to make the Ultra Taper really come alive.

If i had reason to believe I was going to wear out my old Lithic Townes 117 that are a similar flavor to the UT122 I’d put in for a pair of the 183’s right now. Hard to resist. I have 132’s and use them way more than I expected when i bought them, but the UT122 shape/rocker concept is just so money, and so good on less than ideal snow. I suppose the 183’s will be in the ballpark of 70-90 grams lighter too- mid 1700’s seems very competitive for a big touring ski. Bravo!

    Concur.
I love the R beta profile.

Skied my R110 yesterday and R120ST today.
    Sooo good.

(I have not skied the production R profile.)

I love the building anticipation when riding up early lifts over terrain and coverage like that!

Skiing with Shaarrp at ALTA last year (my first) was mond blowing.

It was as if you take your favorite ingredients:

    Steeps
    Trees
    Chutes
    Half-pipes
    Blind rollovers
    Deep fucking snow

Mix in slightly different proportions and sprinkle liberally all over the mountain.

    Yum.

He described the Wildcat lift as the greatest in the world.

Guys, it’s really not necessary to post screenshots every time I’m working in the backend on stuff.
