I’m talking timelines with the general this morning and he said that the floor guy is coming today and should only take a few days and then everyone else can fall in line and start getting shit done.

He backed in his trailer at 10am, sat in his truck till 1130 and then unloaded his equipment and told me he was heading to lunch. Got back here at 130pm, and no shit, has been sitting in his truck ever since. It’s 3 fucking 30 and not one bit of progress. I’m at stage three pull my hair out frustration and the general just keeps telling me this guy is a genius at refinishing wood floors.
Welp, the story gets better. Sitting at work the next day and my phone alerts me that the front door camera was activated. Check and it’s the floor guy, 1030 of course. I proceed to watch him drink directly from a bottle of Wild Turkey for the next few hours (I see him look around and stand close to his trailer like no one can see him), But I figure this ain’t the first time homeboy has worked drunk, so I let him do his thing. Come home from work at 5 half expecting him to be passed out somewhere, but he’s in the kitchen doing his thing, telling me that the project is taking longer than expected (yeah no shit, you’re working 2 hours a day). But I let it go, after all, it’s a line item on my invoice and I’m not paying hourly. If it takes a few extra days I guess it’s not that big a deal.

Fast forward to Friday at noon, and I tell the general I’m headed out of town for the next few days and ask him to lock up after the floor guy is done, of course he agrees. Come home Monday and the cabinets have been installed, great. But…the floor looks like shit, grain is standing up, not smooth, and there are large water marks on some planks that were supposed to be replaced that are now partially under cabinets. I call the general yesterday and tell him he needs to come and look, so I get to leave work and do that today. So yeah, annoyed. Even if the contractor makes this right without much arm twisting it’s going to be a huge pain in the ass.

That’s a last resort. And the vids of him sitting in his truck 4 hours a day, long lunch, late arrivals, etc.

If he is licensed I'm sure the licensing agency and his insurance co would have issues with the drinking.

Yep, that's GTFO and don't come back, tools in the snowbank behavior for me. And that's as the GC. But drunks as tradesmen is not uncommon I just don't allow it or want to be around it. The Yeti tumbler is usually the give away.

Interesting tangent regarding tumblers. I realized a lot more of the moms (and dads) at my son's sports events were drinking in public than I ever thought. My wife clued me in. She started bringing a drink in a tumbler so I started paying more attention to other people with tumblers. Of course my wife would hang the string and label from a tea bag out from under the lid in a funny and unnecessary attempt to disguise the drink.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Totally normalized. I don't like it. I'm not anti drinking. But I am anti drinking culture and having a booze component and every event. It's toxic.

I can't explain it but since the pandemic, everything involves booze. Pub Crawls for the trails alliance, cocktails at the hockey rink, tumbler day drinking everywhere.

When i graduated college and started drinking in public as an adult in my hometown, it really opened my eyes to how many of my childhood friends' parents were either heavy drinkers or outright alcoholics. A lot of the "fun" dads or coaches i remembered from my youth were actually just shitfaced a lot of the time it turned out.

I just assume that if it is after noon, that tumbler is filled with alcohol.

I’m a little confused about the volume thing on your phone. If I put my phone on silent mode the alarms and timer still sound off. What am I missing here?

Change the sound to NONE in the setting for the alarm and it will vibrate in silent. You can change the vibrate pattern in the Haptics setting at top of sound settings in the alarm
If it's green, smoke it...if it's pink, poke it

    I hear ya. I don't disagree.

What if we had a PCP culture? Would it be just as acceptable for everyone to be wet at every event? Hmmm? Subcontractors on PCP would be totally unacceptable.

Weed culture, too. It's sort of crazy how much you smell weed just going about your daily activities nowadays.

Depends on where you live? In VT it seems I smell it as much as I ever did.

I get it, I don’t understand why someone would gripe about not having different volume settings for notifications/ringtone and alarms/timers. I guess their phone is smarter than they are?

I'm in agreeance. I like the smell of weed. Cigarettes and cigars smell awful.

I do like the smell of a pipe, though.

I'll agree it's better than tobacco smoke, but I am surprised some people like the smell of weed.

Ha ha, well I suppose weed smokers get used to the smell. I will say when I'm walking around the hood and smell weed I think "that's cool, these people are relaxing at home" but it's a bit more off-putting when you smell it coming from a car on the road.
