I think that depends on what you're selling and how much BS you're willing to put up with. For cheap cars you want gone in an hour, Craigslist has been great BUT you'll be ready to give up on society by the afternoon with all the idiots and scammers that come out of the woodwork.

For a mid-price vehicle, I've had good luck with Nextdoor. Not much traffic BUT everybody who reached out were real people in the local area, and weren't dicking around.

On the mid to higher side, I'm wondering how Autotrader would be from the seller's perspective. That's how I found my Mercedes wagon and a few others I was interested in. The private party sellers were all WAY less annoying than anybody on CL. From a buyer's perspective, the experience was great. I think them having to pay a decent amount to post the listing cuts out on a LOT of the nonsense more typical of CL/FBM. Again, you'll net less traffic than those, BUT I'm betting it cuts out a lot of the noise.

IMO they all suck. I'm going to need to move a car quickly soon and wondering the same thing. As a potential buyer I don't like any of the sites because if you use enough filters to get the results you want it breaks the site and you get 0 results. I'm finding that very few dealers are able to do wide searches within their brand so it's back to these clearinghouse sites.

My current truck I bought on Autotrader out of Idaho. 100% of what I buy is bought site unseen and 90% of what I sell is sold site unseen. So far I haven't been burned yet. As a seller BAT is easy, it cost nothing (they make their money on the buyer) and they do all the work. All you do is submit your car and if they like it they take care of the rest. Ebay sucked, only did that once. Craigslist I use the most. I've bought and sold probably 10 or so vehicles on there. I've never been scammed but had to learn to wade through the dumbasses in the beginning.

Thanks for the beta. This thing isn’t BaT worthy as it’s just a newer blender or some other similar tool for getting the job done. So far Autotrader seems to be path of least resistance. Maybe FB Marketplace to get some local eyes on it.

Turn 12 - a massive 80 foot drop (blind out of turn 11) that sweeps hard right to the start/finish straight. Watching the IMSA (American Le Mans series for those that don’t follow) classes come screaming down that hill, at night in hour 9 of a 10 hour race, trying to navigate GT class traffic while not letting off is something I look forward to seeing (and feeling in your chest) every year.

So it's just about time for me to work out what to look for next. It's been 8 months since dad passed and I'm still waiting to get the car but it's getting close now so... There are a couple of important parameters: reliable, awd, good to great mpg, and foremost - it has to be fun. In season I do 1500 miles a week and over the winter anywhere from a few hundred to about 1k/week so if it's slow and soul sucking I just can't do it. This means no CVT transmissions and I won't tolerate mushiness unless it gets well over 40mpg and even then I'd question it. The no CVT thing eliminates Subaru, Toyota and Honda and the last parameter, reasonable regular maintenance costs and not unnecessarily expensive replacement parts, takes out most Euromobiles. Some other things that are important is it has to have a hatch because some stuff I use for work is big and won't fit in a sedan otherwise I'd keep dads Benz, I'd also prefer to stay away from Premium gas because it's 80 cents to $1/gal more than regular around here and it needs to be as small as possible because parking in places like NYC SUCKS and I need to be there a few times a month.

I also probably need to keep it around $25k so I think I have it narrowed down to the Mazda CX 30 turbo. Has anyone had any experience with their cylinder deactivation problems in the 3, the 30 and the CX5? I've been overanalyzing this (as I'm wont to do) and found out that the 2020 started having issues soon after it came out so they eliminated the cd sometime in early '21 and didn't start it again until 23 and now it sounds like those (and the 24s) are having problems. The other thing I'm seeing is the non-turbo models that are made in Mexico have shitty QC and silly problems, this has me looking for a 22 Turbo because they're made in Japan and avoid most of the dumb shit. Another important thing is I must be able to put a 2" receiver hitch on it for a heavy rack with 2 e-bikes or I'd be looking at a 3 awd with the 6speed manual from 21 or 22.

What else might meet my needs? Any direct experience with the CX30?

Don’t know anything about the cylinder deactivation issues, but my next door neighbors have a CX-30 turbo and they love it. Their other car is a Lexus RX, maybe 10 years old, and they take the CX-30 whenever they can. Say it’s much more fun to drive, which isn’t exactly surprising.
