Me, I feel the some level of understanding surrounding the news provided context for life. But there is a healthy way to do this. It is not having the TV news on all the time. And it certainly is not consuming to the low grade incendiary commentary.

As the sign at my snowmobile mechanic says, "Stop Covid...Turn Off Your Television". Make incremental change and replace bad habits with better habits. One suggestion I heard is to replace news with history. I like it. Helps me rationalize that the world has been fucked many times in the past and we made it.

So just focus on being the best version of yourself everyday. And whatever you have left over, use that to lift other people up. It ain't easy but it doesn't mean that it is complicated.

Get out of your comfort zone and get around some different groups of people. If you are one of those that is feeling rage, buying into the division, go hang out with the other team a bit. Its the only way.
    Good post.

    Thank you
( I am not-sure about 'hanging out with 'the other team" , but I understand there are those who will Be optimistic through what lies ahead ; That would be good company to keep. )

I'll say it a different way. Don't make it Red Sox and Yankees. That's a choice. Politics isn't life. Respect other peoples reality and give them the opportunity to show you they are good people.

Better than just trying to limit national level news intake, most of which you can’t influence. Get involved locally.

Join a mutual aid group. Volunteer with the elderly or Big Brothers. Do something actionable in your local community. You get multiple benefits, you’ll feel better for do something positive, you’ll improve the lives of the world directly around you, you’ll probably see that there are more good people than you thought in the world which will further improve your positive feelings.

TLDR: pay just enough attention to know what’s going on in the world. Then shut off the news and go do actual physical good in your community.

    Boom!

And heck. If you want to have your voice heard, go to the meetings! If it makes you feel better, rage there.

It’s fucking ugly man. Laid down the law twice, but you find 100 lb girl with three boxes of wine in her, I send the ambulance cause no one else can be bothered. It’s changed me forever, she’s going to die, count your blessings if you dodged that gene.

I have to live with that, and I want to say I did my best to her kids.

Come on, you're missing the pure comedy of Dumpy's appointments. I am laughing everyday at him and all the assholes that voted for him. Moved to PA in 3-2-
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Yeah.... seems like it's the way to cope for many people. Or at least for their online personas

Or, learn something about someone before you judge them. We all bring something different, no two lives are the same, we are the sum of our experiences.

While I agree with your sentiment don’t denigrate vaginas as a negative. Like don’t be a limp dick loser. See what I mean.

If people show you that they make poor choices and don’t care about the fallout, do we just let it go or do we encourage them to take on responsibilities that directly impact our communities?
    Just wondering

Cuz platitudes are fine and good (cuz who wants to look like a sociopath, amirite? we all care…and yet…that’s why it’s a platitude, many don’t really…it’s just lip service)

We are well past theoretical situations at this point

If you choose intolerance, then you have to navigate that. For many, that will include coworkers, bosses, subordinates, your dentist, doctor, car mechanics, kids teachers, ski patrolers and so on. And you also invite others to tread you in the same fashion.

But they are your choices to make. I don't want to live in a monoculture. If everyone acted and thought like me, society would suck.

Its your game to play. I know what works for me. You gotta find what works for you.

No guardhouse. I do have a boat we could flee on. If it was summer. And we didn’t have to flee too far.

Back in the day, 1960's, if you asked people who they was voting for they would say "It's a secret ballot" and the conversation would end.

Exactly. I know exactly how I feel about anyone that voted for the Rapist, Twice Impeached, Insurrectionist that got of easy with only 34 (was it) Felonies. Fuck him and fuck you.
