Have you considered moving back to France? And if not... can I have your spot?

There's room as my parents house and they're pretty bored these days. Show up, tell them I sent you, see how long it takes for them to ask how long you plan on staying and eating all their cheese?

Moving back is incredibly daunting, and it's definitely not better over there, just different. It's easy to look back fondly on my first 20 some years in France, growing up and being a student there was pretty damn fun, but I experienced the reality of being a grown up over there. The reality might not be so fun, at least based on what I'm seeing from friends and family who live there. It's easy to piss and moan about UT, but I'm acutely aware that I'd be pissing and moaning about another set of issues if I moved back, and it might not be the best option for me, the Ms, or the kid(s). Education would certainly be better but on balance I'm not sure. Bitching remains the easiest option!

Yep, amendment a bullshit. Amendment d bullshit. These are possible with a Republican (jackass) supermajority. Help break it. If you live in the avenues, or elsewhere in senate District 8, vote for Alisa Van Langeveld. She's an independent who has siphoned off substantial moderate Republican support, is pro reproductive rights, pro lgbtq rights, Anti amendment a anti amendment d. Has a legit shot at winning. She's polling way ahead of the Democrat and has more resources. (I'm a Democrat, and I'm voting independent here)

Break the fuckin redneck Republican supermajority.

The worst part is that this came out of an emergency special session. It used to be that only the governor could call a special session, then a few years ago the clowns in the legislature proposed a constitutional amendment given them the power to vote themselves into session whenever they want. It passed 2:1. So, when this inevitably comes back around in a slightly less egregious form that can squeak past a legal challenge you can be very confident that voters in this state will eat that shit up and ask for more.

Quite the contrary. Polling showed that 70% of voters were against amendment D and I'm sure it would be similar with amendment A. That's why amendment D was worded in a way to confuse the voter and why amendment A was tied to the food tax. Voters don't want either, they're just too fucking stupid to figure out what the amendments actually do.

While reading the article a pop up blocked it with the message to nominate a remarkable Utah woman. Would this woman qualify?

This place. College is supposed to be a place of new discoveries and being challenged by experiences. To have the mother state that Utah needs to care about its women but probably supports all the other bullshit in the state affecting women (Planned parenthood/reproductive rights) is so goddamned backwards. sounds like the legislature is going full force on biological identity this session.

It's gonna be a weird 45 days. I keep looking at the proposed bills to see how far they're gonna bend the knee to the new administration. There's likely to be more posturing than the last few years.

What really surprised me about this video was the fact that Merrill Hall is still standing. That place must be at least 60 years old. The rest of the video was to be expected here in Utardia.

Well after negotiating a somewhat workable deal with the public workers unions the fucktards in the GQP legislature changed the bill back to its original form and banned all collective bargaining for public employees unions. Also new employees who join a union can’t participate in URS retirement. Jesus these guys are assholes. Hopefully the teachers go on strike. No way Cox vetoes this in the current political climate. Only 3 people testified in favor of the bill. 2 out of state consultants and a teacher from a state funded voucher school. If you live in Utah please email Cox. Unfortunately first responders are legally prohibited from going on strike or that would really get their attention. And way over half those first responders voted for these assholes. In a state with cost of living sky rocketing seems like a great idea to fuck a quarter of the work force.

I know senator Blouin mentioned on his IG recently that he has not seen or heard about the level of opposition to this bill from the public. Not sure if its enough for cox, but definitely call.

Check the comments on KSL for the pulse of the public. Half of them hate the unions for some reason that they can’t express. I can’t express my disappointment in the average voter enough on this issue. We are so fucked.

The way I wrote that came out wrong. Sounds like even though they saw tremendous reach out in opposition as well as vocal opposition committee and on the floor, it still went through.

Also posted in the Wasatch thread.....

This was introduced on Friday. It isn't gonna go anywhere, but it's an interesting discussion none the less.

Utah has some existing examples of this IIRC, where state parks operate on federal lands, however the park can't do anything without fed approval, so kind of a stalemate.
Concerns are: 24 hour access, building additional pavilions, campsites, etc that would negatively impact the area, and the general red tape associated with state parks.
In typical political fashion, the central wasatch commission was blindsided by this bill, and while it's not going anywhere, I don't love it.
