Spent the weekend upstate. Two beautiful (dare I say bluebird) days. Cold enough in the morning that I can imagine it snowing again.

Apple Maps showed insane travel times on the thruway to get home so I took the scenic route down Barkaboom rd to Rt 17 instead. I saw a dairy farm that had its entire barn’s and most of the farmhouse’s roof expertly tarped. I didn’t want to crash or to go back just for a pic so you’ll have to take my word for it.

I was going east on the Thruway on Friday. Hit a short backup just before my exit because of merging to one lane just past the Exit so it had backed up a mile or so until I could get off. Maybe 5 minutes of bumper to bumper, stop and go. I got off and my typical would have been turn around and head back toward Pennsylvania and home going west bound. That was backed up also due to sections of construction and 1 lane for a good 7 or maybe more miles and would have been a huge delay (went past the exit I got off at, so not sure how far up - to the area of the Reservations or not...) I was headed for another area of Upstate so headed toward I-86 and Route 17 and did my second stop and came home on I-86 and probably dodged having to use Rt 20 or Rt 5 to avoid the west bound traffic jam and sitting in a parking lot on the Thruway....

Leaves were getting pretty much close to peak, some trees still green that are later in the fall season, but plenty of reds, yellows out.

So what’s your favorite town name in the Upstate?

There are the ones that clearly get butchered by outsiders such as Coxsackie, Coeymans, Schroeppel, & Valatie.

However I always wonder about those towns that keep names such as Swastika, Coxsackie, or Unadilla.

There's a road here called Charlotte White Rd. and they say "Sharlotty" supposedly because that's how the woman said her name.

    btw

Valatie (vuh-lay-shuh) eludes most but is a pretty small town. Rensselaer (wren-slur) gets butchered every day, even by insiders; but if you wanna have fun with town names Coxsackie is where it’s at.

On the lighter side here in the capital district, Crossgates mall going back to the future of 1985 - when it was successful and cocaine was exotic

I wonder if they take the root ball with the tree to keep it alive or if they just cut it and send it to Fresh Kills after the holidays. Also, how much did the tree owners get for it? Ive taken down quite a few big old trees in the North East to sell them, or parts of them, to furniture makers, gun smiths, etc. Big old trees are worth $$. Even after the holidays. When I lived in NJ I would buy a fresh live tree every Christmas and then re plant it near the driveway. It's a chore to keep the tree alive but at least it wasn't killed for Christmas.

they cut it, then process the tree for a charity, I think habitat, after the holiday. Never heard what te former owners of te tree get, beyond a free trip to the lighting ceremony.

Usually the people that supply the tree want to get rid of it and donate

Apparently the new owner has already added snowmaking to something like 15 trails.
