I’m at the Mayo Clinic now. Asked about this today. I’m [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]][emoji637]. Doc said get it. Said to do it on a Friday as you may feel like crap for a day or two. [emoji638] to [emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]] months for the second shot. [emoji638]nd could be less, same, or worse. Said shingles sucks. Get the shots. I’ll be lining mine up when I get home.

    shingles sucks.

Not being a smart ass….because of work, I get the ones I am supposed to get..but why do all the vaccines we have to get these days have all these nasty after effects? When we got vaccinated as kids/..did we feel this way? or are we just pussies as we get older.

Everyone is healthy/feeling good, and we all get flu shots at work…and for the next two weeks/ everyone is out sick..lol

You’re either exaggerating or your fellow employees are taking an annual vacation under the guise of flu vaccine side effects

    Nope…we wouldn’t get away with that crap/fired.

I get them all….so I’m not an anti-vax guy…..and the after effects are usually not too bad for me/but definitely feel off a bit for a couple days….(although last year/ after flu shot in October….I was “sick” for like 3 months/which was not a good time/)

My question is why do our bodies react this way?

For the same reason they react this way when we get an infection--the immune system at work.
I was a kid when a vaccine meant a non disposable needle. Those fuckers hurt so you didn't notice the other symptoms.
(My father was a doctor. When we had family gatherings on the holidays there would be a pot of his glass syringes and dull needles boiling on the stove so he could give shots to us and our cousins.)

100% of you are getting 2 weeks of illness post flu shot that is severe enough that you can’t work?

I’ve always just felt a localized soreness in my vax’s. Any downside could have just as easily been described by any other day-to-day malady.
I do think those worksites with long-term sick leave provisions might experience more liabilities than those workplaces where benefits are no more than govt mandated minimums. No judgement here as I been in both worlds.

Wrong….being sick/ feeling like crap does not mean not working. Our staff works through it….we have to. (It just sucks feeling like crap/ after getting a shot is supposed to help you)

Internet/keyboard communication is muddying the waters here….

“Everyone is healthy/feeling good, and we all get flu shots at work…and for the next two weeks/ everyone is out sick..lol”

Can you understand my confusion about what you posted? “For the next two weeks everyone is out sick”

Research and decades of vaccine monitoring shows a couple days (1-3) of arm soreness is the most frequent after effect (in like 1/3rd of people) and in less people than that 1-2 days of mild fatigue.

If you guys are all getting after effects (any at all) for 2 weeks you should be reporting that to the vaccine monitoring people because that is so far off the bell curve its deserves study.

Again…internet words/ too literal…..can’t see the sarcasm. (I’m not saying everyone is out sick for a whole 2 weeks)…………..it was meant to be said that a staff of healthy people get the flu shot at work…..and in the next 2 weeks…everyone starts getting sick/ feeling like crap.

It’s actually comical at work…that we all say the same thing/ “getting the shot today…..get ready to feel like crap the next 2 weeks.”

My question (which Old Goat answered) was how a group of healthy people all get the shot the same day/ and the next thing you know/ all get sick in some way or another? (not enough to miss work/ but enough to feel like crap)

Does that make sense? Maybe?…..lol. It’s really not that big a deal to me. Sorry if I screwed up the thread.

All good - it’s just that when I said you must be exaggerating you said no LOL

Something to consider - flu shots come at the same time the weather gets cooler, we spend more time indoors, colds and infections like that start getting brought home by school kids etc - there may be some bias to what you and your co workers experience every fall at this time.

Flu vaccines are not known to cause cough, runny nose, sore throats, congestion - if that’s what you guys are experiencing that’s not a vaccine reaction.

Could the flu vaccine increase your susceptibility to other viral infections in the 1-2 weeks following? Don’t know that answer - I can’t see how but I’d leave that to our resident vaccine experts.

I had my second at 9am, along with Novavax, flu, and TDaP. Felt fine for most of that day besides sore injection sites. Felt like a cold that night and next day, including fever and nose trying to run. So, slightly worse than my normal flu vaccine reaction. And slightly better than mRNA reaction. Given all the horror stories about the second round, I think I got off easy. Any of those shots could have produced the reaction I got and I got four done and suffered once.
