Every morning, I wake about 5:30, make a pot of coffee and deliver my wife a cup in bed at around 6:15, when she awakens. This morning, we both got up at 5:30. I walked into the kitchen, let my dog out to roam the neighborhood and noticed that the hot water was starting to boil. We do like a 4 cup drip into a secondary can. I noticed that my wife was using our single cup drip into a mug. I asked her to do the 4 cup into the can, so I could have a cup. She refused, because [she] was in a hurry for her first cup and world. Such head. No more coffee in bed for her.

That's a complete dick move on her part. Bad way to start the day.

A dick move for someone with no dick

I wonder how long before she notices the coffee-in-bed machine is on the fritz ?

FAFO for Ms Schindlerpiste, losing coffee in bed privileges seems like appropriate retribution.

I got a programmable outlet to start the espresso machine early enough to be warm by the time Ms Boissal gets up (4:45 these days). For a while she would make her coffee then turn the machine off so it would be back to cold when I got up. I asked her a few times to leave the machine on as it takes so long to get back to temp but she kept doing it, morning brain fog and all. So I changed the outlet program and had it turn on the machine right as she got up, meaning no coffee for the first 30 minutes. That was the last time she accidentally turned the machine off

I don't know what outlet you are running but they tell you not to do that in some literature I've read probably for the Rancillio

Weird, the MaraX manual says nothing about that and there are tons of people online who are running something similar (I didn't come up with that setup on my own, not smart enough). The outlet is a ConnectSense in-wall, 20A, on its own breaker cause the damn heating element kept tripping the 15A-rated outlet or the breaker itself. It's been flawless for a bit over 2 years. I like that it has a physical control on it so you don't need to pull your phone out to turn it off.

yeah it wasnt in the Rancillio manual but I'm sure i have read something about it ?

Rancillio do say dont use adapters, extension cords, multiple sockets and check the current capacity

being in-wall with its own breaker is probably why it works for you, i think if you tried to use a cheap timer on that same plug it would not be safe ?

Along the same lines I instaled a microwave trying to use the power for the old range fan and it blew breakers because a micro drew so much power it needed one of the counter plugs

Can someone explain like I’m 5 why you wouldn’t want to use smart plug with an espresso machine - certainly makes it so nice to wake up
to a machine that’s been on and heating up for 30 minutes

It all depends on how you talk to Alexa , with the wrong tone she is much more likely to stop communicating with certain outlets.

I have a $25 timer on mine and it’s still working just fine. Some are rated for 15 amps some are 20, most machines will wants all 15 while pumping which doesn’t fall under the 80% of max current that a 20 allow.

Last night I guess my wife couldn't sleep so she decided to watch videos on her phone in bed. She didn't check that thd volume was down. I was stsrtlex out of sleep by some racket from her phone about 1' from my head. Scared the shit outta me then I couldn't get back to sleep.

I've been living at our lakehouse while she is back n forth to our primary residence, I'm really beginning to like sleeping alone.

Duno what you know I only know just enough TO be dangerous and I don't know anything about smart plugs so google it yourself eh

SO Kitchen appliances with heating elements draw a lot of current so if you buy a cheap 5 $ timer from the dollar store and plug it into a counter plug with a microwave it might catch fire so manufacturers will say don't use a timer to protect the 5 yr olds from themselves

SO all the plugs on your kitchen counters use a breaker with a higher rating than the rest of the plugs in your house, so if you plug a microwave that worked in your kitchen into a living room plug it will trip the breaker

SO besides counter plugs having a breaker rated high enough to handle toaster ovens and microwaves the top plug on a kitchen counter circuit is on a different circuit than the bottom plug this is so you can plug 2 appliances with heating elements into the same outlet and they don't trip the breaker .

What happens lots is the home handy man changes a worn counter plug and a formerly working outlet will instantly trip the breaker with nothing plugged it until they break that little tab in the middle of the outlet that ties the top and bottom together.

My weaponized snoring has gotten me a semi-permanent berth in the guest room and yeah, we both sleep a lot better.

    Gotcha thanks this makes sense.

Our “Kasa” smart timer is rated to 15a/1800w

Our espresso machine is made to plug into a 15a plug and based on my uneducated research this should continue to work without issue.

Wife just got her car back from the body shop after she rear ended someone. $28k repair (wish they had totaled it) on a $45k car. The other day she backed out of the garage before the door was all the way up and ripped the shark fin antenna off her roof. Dealer says $5k to repair! Local body shop $3K! WTF!?!

Been using a Kasa AC smart plug for years and years with a Gaggia and this year a Profitec. No issues with these smaller devices.
