I replaced the AT3W (which I loved, and were the best AT tires I’ve owned in the snow) with the Nokian Outpost AT on my rig. Every user review I’ve read has been superb, and places them ahead of the AT3W’s in almost every category, including snow/ice which is what I care about since I drive a good 5000 miles each winter from CA to CO and back and up to Tahoe most weekends, but still get enough pavement driving in that dedicated snows don’t make sense. The outposts are also noticeably quieter than the AT3W’s, but I just put them on. Pretty stoked to see how they do this winter.

Note: the Outpost AT is the version of the tire that was produced in their Russian factory, which Nokian shut down when the war broke out. I got my tires 35% off on Simpletire.com - still some sizes left there and other sites on the internet.

The Outpost nAT is essentially identical to the AT, but is made in their new Tennessee factory. Only difference is the tread shoulder is slightly blockier and the sidewalls are smoother for aesthetics purposes (“To appeal to the North American market’s tastes” lol).

Class leading tread depth too, 1/32-3/32 more than all other brands. On the lighter end of the weight range too.
Honestly, I don't understand the changes to the AT3W. It was simply the best AT tire available. Double bonus points for easily lasting 40k on my HD truck (K02's only made it to 25k). I have a pile of AT4's to go onto a few that are currently wearing AT3W's. This will be a heck of a real world trial. I'll report back at the end of the year.

Just got some KO[emoji639]’s installed. They look identical to the KO[emoji638], I guess they have full siping and a slightly different compound. So far they are completely silent on the road and highway. The KO[emoji638]’s I took off lasted about [emoji639][emoji638]k miles before they were unbearably loud and worn very unevenly even though I rotated every oil change. Hoping the ko[emoji639]’s are as good or better this winter. How many miles are on your stock shocks? I fixed uneven K02 wear with new shocks on a Tundra. It got 60k from the last set of K02's. Prior to that they were cupping badly and would go 40k-ish before becoming unbearable. Same experience with a Silverado 1/2 ton.

Hmm interesting… i put Bilstein 5100’s on it at around 30k, and I just hit 62k this morning, so not a lot of miles on them. But I do tow a lot, either a dump trailer filled with shit or a tractor. I’m guessing that’s where I’m losing a lot of mileage off of the tires

When I was running Bilstein 5100s I was only getting 30-40k out of them before they'd blow up, and I wasn't really beating on them that hard. I wouldn't be surprised if your shocks are already fuct.

That’s great info. The truck still drives smooth and they look in good shape. Are there any telltale signs to look for? [emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]-[emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]k out of shocks seems like a short life.

I did get a full alignment when I got the ko[emoji639]’s mounted, hoping that would help with the uneven wear

Look close for them seeping oil. Fronts went faster than rears for me (first gen Tundra).

Yeah, I wasn't happy with the lifespan at all. I went to Icons, so far so good.

Well, I just bought the Nokian Outpost nAT tires, and Raceline wheels to replace the OEM tires and wheels on my new Ram truck. Hope it goes well.

I run the 5100 Bills and have 40k on them without issue. Tons of dudes I know run them as well as they are highly touted on several truck forums without issue.

Yup... I put 4600 or 5100's on a lot of trucks. Curious how it does with the alignment.

Anyone remember when Bilstein had a lifetime warranty?

Fwiw....put new ones on last Fall and although we had a weak winter with a month of the usual constant 4-8" of weekly crud....my BB ATs gave me great traction/travel and wear.

I'm a huge fan of the Road+Trail. The compound is incredible for treadwear and grips really well too. Zero slipping in wet blacktop, very good snow performance, great off-road. I've got 18,000 on mine now and tread is still at 10/32 (out of 13/32 brand new). Best thing is this tread compound and design is incredibly quiet. I'd definitely give the Stronghold a try if I had need of an LT tire.
This guy really knows ball. New set on my 05 Tundra, they are wayyyy quieter than Grabbers.

Glad for this thread. The Cooper Road+Trail never came up on my radar while casually looking a month ago for pending replacements for my Pathfinders (made by Hankook). On my short list was Vredestein Pinza ATs w/rated 70K mileage. Any insights comparing any of these? I was not disappointed with the performance on road, off road, camper hauling and snowy roads of the Pathfinders. Their 55K rating is, but at $70 less per tire, they are still on the short list.

Discount tire has these $80 off again till Nov3, with an additional $100 mail in rebate good till Nov30.

Pulling the trigger for my 2010 Tundra. Need better wear than AT3 Wildpeaks offered on the road wear side of the coin.

^ I mentioned this here upthread but obviously this thread is impossible to mine so I’ll just repeat:
The Mich LTX AT2 is a great summer/all season but I would not expect much of it for snow. I use them for May through November usage only, and one year I put them on during a late March heatwave only to have cold April snowstorms and the winter traction was pretty poor. The best thing about this tire is that it’s extremely smooove on the highway and also great for heavy payloads or towing (at least in my E rated size on a 3/4 ton).

That's why I like the mag reviews on this thread, since they tend to be winter performance-specific.

Looking for new winters for a 2nd Gen Tundra. I currently have unstudded Cooper Snow Claws, and have used the old Cooper M+S in the past. They do well in deep snow and soft snow, wear well, but are only OK on ice, which there's a fair amount of in the Sierra. I live in Carson City, where it doesn't snow a ton and winter temps often get into the low 50s. I have a old beater sedan I commute in, so the truck mostly gets used in winter for getting into the Sierra when there's going to be bad weather. I also do a trip or two to the western Sierra Foothills and quite a few trips to the Eastern Sierra. Those often involve a few miles of rough rocky approach roads. If I get 15-20k miles of usable life out of the tire I'll be good. I want to keep deep unplowed highway and trailhead capability but be more confident on ice. Don't care about noise, and as long as wet/dry pavement driving isn't significantly sketchier than with a summer mud terrain I'm good.

Looking at Hakkapelitta LT3, studded or unstudded, Blizzak LTs, studded Cooper Snow Claws, or a studded AT. The mountain CHP SUVs mostly run studded duratracs from what I've seen. Opinions or other ideas?

Studded winter tires - my opinion. Have them on my Land Cruiser. Currently using Firestone winterforce 2’s. There are times where it’s one of the only vehicles getting in or out of my neighborhood along with awd/4wd using chains. During those times, my awd car with snow tires will not make it up the road (down is sketchier w/o 4lo).

I'm going into winter 2 on studded LT3s on my F-150. They replaced LT2s that had about 30k and were at 50% or so tread (but over six seasons, so I considered them aged out).

I've managed to avoid driving the LT3s in really warm temps, but around 60 the LT2s felt mushy to me and I assume were eating tread quickly. If you're good with 15-20k out of a set and can swallow the price, I think the Nokians would work for you. I had the LT2s on a fair number of minimally maintained USFS roads the first winter I had the truck, and they performed well in my estimation (honestly, they did at least as well in spring conditions, even without frozen stuff, as the cheap AT tires I ran in the summer).
