    Would you eat it?

    Depends on the fridge, type of food, etc. 4hrs is on the reg safe side, but I might not trust raw chicken by that time. Cured meats, hard cheese, veggies, most condiments, etc, should be good for much longer. We recently had an outage that started at 730pm planned for 7hrs (Ha!), started the genny at 7am before leaving for work for the fridge and freezers, and we lost nothing. Outage lasted until about 2pm. House was about 65F overnight, with no opening the fridge of course. The outage hurt the commercial guys cause of regs(similar to USDA), but most at home did alright if they had a full freezer and kept the fridge closed.

    Power was out due to some electrical work in the house, about 10 hours total, fridge wasn’t opened in that time. I just murdered some leftover pozole full of pork. I’ll report back if that was a bad idea.

    No, I would not eat it. Not because it looks disgusting and loaded with preservatives and other shit, but because I think this particular meal in a box represents the absolute lowest a person can be in life. Alone, hungry, without friends or family, and nothing better to gather round and give thanks about than this turkey/green bean casserole/stuffing pizza. Should be served with Prozac gravy.

    I think you just sold me on Thanksgiving pies... NZ meat-pie style. Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, etcetera, topped with cranberry jelly. Baked in cupcake tins with pie crusts on the bottom. Damn son... Imma do it.

    Best Thanksgiving dinner I ever had was a creole/cajun feast some friends did. And no turkeys were harmed in the making of that dinner.

    Well obviously you have to bake the crusts first, then fill with the various ingredients. Sounds like all the work of Thanksgiving dinner, plus baking a pie crust.
    I'd go out for sushi if I were you.

    Milkman came today - I didn’t expect him to….

    Milk and yogurt sat in a lightly insulated box on the front porch from nine am to one pm. Temp went from thirty-eight to forty-two.

    Safe?

    Yes, but the milk may have a slightly shorter shelf life than usual. Yogurt takes longer to spoil as long as it was in a well sealed container.

    Is high 30s, low 40ish normal temps for a fridge? Should be good to go on milk and yogurt.

    Homemade chili (beef and black/pinto beans) from 6 nights ago, smelled fine, looked as good as day 1, mixed in with some queso and brought back to a boil on the stove. Served up hot a la Tostitos. I’m normally a fridge-life freak but didn’t even second guess this one, looked to damn good after a couple beers and a brake job on the jeep. Would you eat it?

    You still with us? And if so I'd suggest not lighting any matches and make sure the pilot lights are out.

    Any tomato in there? The acid will slow down mold growth. Six days is getting long in the tooth, but if it smelled okay, I would probably go for it

    Recently, I nuked a can of soup and forgot about it. Next morning, my housemate had left the bowl in the sink. I said "fuck it" and nuked it again and ate it. I'm still here.
