Having hole conflict with the 188 protests and while I know there is a thread for "conflicting/overlapping holes" I couldnt find much in regards to at least my first question. So if anyone with experience cares to chime in here it would be appreciated.

Skis have an original mount of OG STHs. I want to get my pivots on them at around -1 from line. The aft holes on the pivot toe pattern line up almost perfectly with the existing back holes of STH toes. The STHs are about 1mm wider than the pivots measuring hole center to hole center. So, with such little difference do you think its ok to screw back into STH holes with pivots? I suppose screws would be slightly canted but can 1mm really make that much difference...?

In the heel there is a clear overlap or "figure 8" of the front two holes. So was just wondering if I epoxy old holes if I can drill, overlapping into filled (epoxy) holes. I know there is some guidance in "epoxy thread" about which to use or what to mix in. Just thought I'd put that out here too.

Fyi, moving boot center slightly forward or slightly back doesnt really resolve issue. Thanks for any feedback trying to avoid putting a different binding on other than pivots.

How far from tip is this “line”? You can mount from 101-102.5 from the tip based on skiing style.

The black line on ski (from factory) is 100.8 from tip. So I am trying to go one back from that putting me at 101.8 from tip.

Go to 102 or 102.25. It will allow you to drive the tips a bit more yet get neutral and pivot them easily.
Ps, that’s the first line from factory I’ve seen on this gen protest. Interesting. All the others have no marking

^^ this. Sounds like the sth and pivots wouldve been for the same bsl. Those back holes are generally the conflict between the two bindings. Personally i like the protest at -1.5 . Mount points vary on those but there ate quite a few that do go -1,5. That should resolve the hole conflict . I think -1 with pivots gives you atleast a cm of seperation between those back holes though. If you want to go on recommend ive resolved that exact conflict by filling the holes w epoxy , redrilling, then redrilling for inserts , then redrilling even bigger for automotive helicoils. The inserts screw into the heli coils and machine screws to mount the binding into the inserts. The helicoils and insertds are epoxied into place and that width of those heli coils just engulfed the old solly holes. I did that for cast 1.0 on a pair of billy goats i picked up.

Finally skied my 192 Protests, veneer, new rocker profile. Conditions were spring pow at Alpental today. Couldn’t believe the overall versatility and the suspension was amazing! Almost didn’t bring them out today as I own too many soft snow specific skis, but couldn’t have been happier!

Right on, were those the walnut beauties I peeped in the chair 2 line today? I've been protest curious for a while, should've made a move when the 192s were on sale for $450 earlier this year.

They were the stock build during one-off veneer sale, so flex 3. I can't compare to the old profile - I owned a pair of the OG Protests way back, but I can't really make that comparison anymore. I can compare the suspension to the HL FR110 and FR120ST - similar in dampness/desire to charge, but a little more lively in a really good way. Honestly was shocked at how well mannered they were in anything remotely 3D - skied them all day with no problem. I also had some concerns about the length being too much - but this also was not an issue. The big bumps in Lower I and Snake Dance were actually fun on these things! Hoping we get one more shot of spring pow to get a little more time on them this season.

Gotcha. Really curious how a new profile 192 4 flex skis compared to an old profile. Really no complaints with mine but if new is that much betterer then…..

whats the low down on 196 mount point? seems 1-1.5 is the go to in the 192 and 187 but maybe on the line is the way to go with the big boys?

I have my 187s on the mark but it feels to me that there is too much tail. To be fair, I usually ski and prefer traditionally mounted skis and am used to being forward. I emailed Kieth for advice when I bought them but didn’t get a response so went with the recommended. I hate to drill a new set of holes but I’ll likely make that decision since I just don’t grab them as much as I anticipated I would.

Skied them at -1 and liked them. Haven’t skied them on the line tho.

    I have 187 at -1 and 192 at -1.6

I like more traditional and they rock there

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Ok ok. I have a couple pairs I need to mount this fall so I’ll slip the Protests in. Probably go -1.5 to make sure I have plenty of gap between holes.

-1.5 is the way to go IMO.

On 196’s I’d still probably do that too, particularly if you’re a big guy.

I’ve been on 187’s, 188’s, and 192’s. -1.5 has been the sweet spot

Have a new pair of Protests arriving this week (187, Enduro/Carbon, veneer, Flex 3) and already dwelling on mount point.

I'd immediately go back -1 or -1.5 as that seems to be the general consensus (yes, there are exceptions, but after reading pages and pages, the majority are back), not to mention I tend to drive the front of the ski. Only concern is that this is a lot of ski for me (5'6", 158). The other comparable length ski in my quiver is a 186 CB that I mounted -1 (-6). That was a good call for that ski, but not sure it helps with the Protest. Also, not much info yet about mount since the profile update. Maybe the new shape lends itself to be closer to the line?

Any issue with me throwing a demo binding on these (probably a Strive 13)? I typically run Pivots on everything, but this would allow me to experiment with mp, not to mention share them with family and friends and perhaps drum up some orders for Keith!

If it's the new protest rocker pressed beginning last season, imo go on the line.
