I am going to mount a set of Warden Demo bindings on this years Praxis Protests (196s). Going to mount on the line and then - if we ever get a powder day - I will test them at the line and then move them back, will report my amateur level perceived differences here.

    Pray for snow.

Putting a feeler out there for once drilled minty protest 187s from last year. 3-4 pow days on em. Stock build. I custom built some veneers so looking to unload these. Mount for pivots, 296bsl, -1cm.

Just a quick post after some fkna fun turns on my second pair of protests. Picked up TNCRompers 192 -1 flex 5 HH core.

Had a blast ripping rain corn and wet mank. Perfect tool for our wet n warm weather cycle. Was ripping past my buds on their Mfrees with so more ease.

Biggest surprise…….just how much more enjoyable they were on the groomed. Compared to my full width flex 4 MAP 196s, well, no comparison. I’d give nod to core n flex making the biggest impact but knees did appreciate the -1 width too.

Def a specialist in the quiver but one that will see substantial use here in the PNWet

There's a pair on FB for a killer price and it has me thinking about wading in again. Previously had a 194 flex 3. Thinking 192 Flex 4 would be perfect. Unfortunately the graphics on this pair suck.

I can hear the pitchforks being sharpened now! So you’re on the 118 version?

4 flex is THE flex for the protest, omho.

Rad!! That’s the best shape I think. Very little sidecut underfoot. Love my gen 2 188’s. Wish they were stiffer is all.

Yep. Binders are in killer condition as well. Hardly used and been awhile looking at all the dust in the heel cup.

Anyone care to compare the previous years to their new rocker profile pair?

the new rocker on my girlfriend's pair is significantly quicker to rise and higher than my 3-4 year old pair. while it floats incredibly well this new design feels much more pow specific and it's my opinion that the old design is more well rounded and useful outside of endless powder environments. I got her custom 163cm Protests and she just isn't grooving with them, so they're getting listed.

I have not skied the new shape myself. But if I could I'd opt for the prior shape for another pair.

Thanks N1CK. That may fit my usage. My current zone has a lot of low angle relstively tight trees to tour with some funked up snow more often than i'd like. Not many steep sidehill skintracks there but i could use some added float and maneuverability and there's alway the japanuary dream

Was able to get the owner of the 188s on FB that Muggy shared to ship. I don't see a dimple on them. There is a black line that looks like a sharpie going across topsheet and am wondering if the previous owner made that or the factory. I feel like maybe I have seen it on other 188s and it doesnt rub off so might be under the nylon. Any guidance? Also, are people on the line for the 188s or going back 1.5?

A few quick notes on the 188s compared to current 187 protest. Weight is about equal (2250g/ski). They hand flex fairly stiffer. They have quite a bit less tip rocker. The current protest has a fairly abrupt and significant early rise. However, the 188s have slightly more tail rocker which is why I suppose they feel looser, along with the larger turn radius. I've attached some photos below. The bases and edges are pristine on these 188s so thanks Muggy for the find. I'm having some hole conflict so we'll see what I end up doing with them...

I had a pair of those original 188s .. they were awesome. I'm trying to remember the recommended mount, maybe 86cm from tail?
Also, mine measured out closer to 186cm, straight pull of a tape. I'd be curious what those measure.

These straight tape at 186cm as well. About 1/2cm longer than my 187s.

I'm sure you'll get many folks saying to go -1 or -1.5 on those too, in case of hole conflicts.

Just got this almost instantaneous reply from Keith:

"The early generation Protest were stiffer so probably not custom. I think maybe way back at one time long ago we did do a year of marking the skis with a marker line.

But for the boot center I'd find the skis exact center and go back 8 cm for boot center. Or in that range. The old line was probably more forward than that. All in all I like to be -6 or 7 cm on the Protest but we found customers liked the mount a bit further back. The current mark is a -8 from skis true center."

.. does anyone know roughly how much more a 196cm protest would weigh, when adding a heavy hitter core? Thx =)
