I rode a Rambo pursuit to fish…until it fell off my bike rack at the Braintree split, in the middle of the highway at 12:30p on a summer Tuesday. Not good!

Damn that sucks. My worst move with a bike on the highway was also with my fat bike but it managed to hang in time for me to pull over. Probably wouldn’t have at the split.

Some new signs showed up on the local state park trails. This first one is on a paved haul road once used by the shuttered mill but repurposed as a multi use path that is part of the coastal trail and all under the jurisdiction of state parks. Class 1 ebikes were previously prohibited on the trail but you would only know this by going to their website.

The sign is hard to see especially before they finally mowed all the tall grass around it. I ride the path often and see all manner of transport on it, e-scooters, those one wheeled things, all classes of "ebikes" some with 3 and 4 wheels that can go super fast, even bikes with janky gas powered engines and the rangers don't seem to mind much.

A few single track trails up in the forest now have these signs at the trailheads.

I see class 1 ebikes on the trails from time to time and I doubt the rangers or calfire employees would try to attempt any sort of enforcement. Unfortunately that sets up the inevitable conflicts with other trail users. I've started to warm up to the type 1 ebikes and I was kind of hoping that these trails would be opened to them as I think maybe my next bike purchase is going that way but I'm the sort that usually sticks to the rules especially when its something that might piss someone else off.

I heard that was going to change down there in America and class 1 would be allowed where ever acoustic bikes are allowed cuz there really is no difference ?

I understand up here there are some trails in whistler where there are no e-bikes allowed but that place is crazy with tourists

up here the provincial gov is throwing money at mtn biking, places you never thot of for mtn bikes suddenly have trails and class 1 does not seem to be an issue

localy there is 1 alpine project on the go and 1 was completed, the mtn bike area is hikers/ class 1 / acoustic only, no 2 no 3 no horses ,

the club exec and the 2 builders are on E-bike so there is social license, the club has said we hope E-bikers will adopt the highest trails cuz they can get up there so its easy for acesss, yesturday the builder said to me thanx for getting those trees !

Demo'd a Bullit yesterday. First real mtn bike ride on an eeb. I kept it in eco mode most of the time and then for the big ups I switched the trail mode and it was like being on a chairlift! Really amazing. I rode boost for about 30 seconds just to try it and I can see not needing that hardly ever or at all.

Everything was going great until I pedal struck a cut log on the edge of the "rollercoaster" trail. Launched me over the bars. Thankfully it was on really steep roll over so I didn't slam. Landed on my upper back. So close to the collarbone snapage! Doh! Get my shit together and straighten the bars a little and the brake levers. Little controller has an error W945. So no motor. Wire loose somewhere. I can't see where, f it just ride without. Go to pedal and the spindle is tweaked. Oh the joy! Had to push a bit up a hill, but it went pretty good with no motor and much better if the pedal wasn't jacked.

They're definitely fun. It would be interesting to try the different battery/motor combos. The Bullit torque really kicks in at a higher cadence. My eeb commuter TeroX rides much differently, so I'd like to try a Levo and a Heckler.

You must have really augered in to bend the pedal like that or more likely they put shitty pedals on a rental bike,

edit: you probably ground out a pedal becuz the BB of these bikes is so close to the ground , its also why they handle so good

there are a couple of wires plugging in on the back of the display, I've ripped one out before which stopped the ride, I had to order it on amazon, also check wring at the handlebar switch.

heckler is very similar to Bullit but just a little less extreme if you compare travel angles and lengths

    duno about the Levo

Bullit is a great handling bike IME basicaly the Nomad with a motor, my Bullit is 3yrs old today I've done 5100 kms of single track at an average of < 13kph all in boost mode, I just got really used to hitting that switch 3 times and braaappp !

I've never bent a pedal like that before, but I've also never hit one that hard. 50lb bike at a decent speed on a really steep angle certainly creates a ton of force.

As a trail builder I never leave cut blowdowns on the side like that for this exact reason. It's pretty common around here to see these and I cringe every time I see one. It only takes some green leafy whatever to hide it or in this particular case dust and dirt made it blend right in with the trail. I also understand that it's often cut with a chainsaw and the edge of the trail is often higher so you can cut without putting the chain in the dirt. Still, I don't do that. I go deeper in for the cut and/or move the thing somehow.

When I returned the bike a mechanic told me he had the same thing happen to him a while ago. Almost broke his foot.

my tendancy is to keep pedaling so the motor is always assisting so I go faster/hit more stuff as a result but I haven't bent or broken anything, some people change to shorter cranks but I don't think its gona make much difference.

Santa Cruz claims 49.75 but its 52+ on my bathroom scale which is par for the course with a full power E-bike, I think the Bullit is a great bike no issues in 3 yrs/ 5200 kms, its still a solid bike just repalce parts as required, SC is a huge seller around here

I've seen the local builder carrying more gear than he could ever carry up the bluff using a bob trailer, all the hand tools/ buckets/ a chain saw so E-bikes are great for trail work

and I always buy him a beer at the craft brew

Actually 155 cranks make a huge difference in not hitting rocks

Gradually the bb's on the newest emtb's havs crept up a bit. I nailed a rock in the early days of having my decoy and bent both the crank arm and pedal. I think it probably played a part in the early expiry of the motor as well. Theyve since improved the bearings a bit. Those heavy hits are something that should be avoided, obviously, but you do end up pedaling more in places you otherwise wouldnt on an acoustic bike and the extra weight of an dmtb does get into the travdl easier and deeper. I've since increased my fork to 180, run the frame in the high setting, and shortened the cranks to 160. I still tag pedals a little more than i prefer and i'll put some 152-155 cranks on and probably have a zeb to replace my yari and i think thatll do it. I ran my fox 38 ,at 180, on it and that was close to perfect so a 180 or 190 zeb or boxxer with 152-155 cranks should be the sweet spot. Better climber , as well, when you can keep pedaling longer through roots and rocks with shorter cranks. Miranda have inexpensive options for cranks. I think mine were under $100 and still going strong after 4 years. My canfield flat pedals are very thin as well so that adds a few mm of clearance. I think the shorter cranks will allow me to run a 180 dropper post as well

I think it depends a lot on the type of eeb. On my Levo, I ran it in high, neutral head cup, and overforked to 170mm, 160mm cranks just to not have pedals clip the ground in ruts on climb trails. That put it at something like 350mm BB height. But on the Heckler SL, it rides higher in its travel and is less wallowy due to better suspension design, so even with 165mm cranks & 345mm BB, I don't have issues with pedal strikes.

yeah Bullit is 170/170 travel and i think the stock Shimano cranks are 170 , they don't seem to care about all the pedal strikes so I'm not going to, I still think if i was acoustic I would be picking my way thru stuff on the ground instead of powering thru it, the motor takes a fair amount of hits but no problem there either

E-edr no one has longer cranks than 160, on any bike. 155 is the most popular. Last race or the one before a lot of the racers were on 150's.
Lots of tall emtbers on 155's. One reviewer is 6"4' on a 180 crestline(vpp) with 155's. He went back and forth between full 9er and mullet, evdntuslly settling on mullet but went to 155 cranks and never budged

This is being sold by a friend of mine, I can 1000% vouch for the condition of this bike, and to the integrity of the seller.
