Most grocery stores have distilled water.

Yeah I'll grab some tomorrow if it's advisable.

It's advisable. Don't worry about it in a pinch, but if doing it right use distilled it prevents scale buildup on cooling components (radiators, water passages in the block and head) that reduce the effectiveness of heat transfer.
    sigless.

Not finding what I need for a 2010. I may have to stop by Toyota and ask some questions.

What's the preferred way to get access to shop manuals software these days? There was alldata up to 2012. I had access to some dodgy car forums with cracked software but I lost access.

I've found model specific forums to still be the best place to find the software. It's taken me quite a few months to gather everything I wanted for the wife's new whip. Nothing was behind a wall.

Changed out the ignition module on my old Cub Cadet 2135 with Kohler 13 horse with a $30 OEM new in box part from ebay.. Internet said it was the likely reason my mower would always quit after mowing 2/3 of my yard. No spark. Put it away and a few hours later it would run fine. Frustrating. Until recently this happened only very intermittently so I couldn't figure it out or didn't bother, and it just dogged me.

Attacking this job should be easy, but the engine is sideways with the blower housing up against the firewall. Just getting the model number off of it took a mechanics mirror. Half of the internet says remove the engine, the other half says you can do it by pulling the firewall back and accessing it from the top. Debate, but no how to, nothing in the service manual, and no Youtube videos for this one. I sense an opportunity.

So I pulled the firewall back and unbolted shrouds randomly until I got it done. Cleaned it up as best I could using air and degreaser. 10 thousandth feeler gauge for the gap and tightened up.

The old one was covered in oily grime, probably why it was failing.

Pressure washed the entire thing. What a mess, but looking sharp now.

Mowed my yard and my neighbors after bolting it back together and it ran and ran. Success.

Today I learned that mowers have firewalls.

Yeah. Not sure it does much in the way stopping fires, it has a big hole in the middle of it for the blower to bring in outside air so I think that is its primary purpose, but that is what everyone is calling it.

Mower has a hood, so I figured this was the correct thread to post up this incredible lawn mower fix it story.

Tried to swap the alternator on the FJ62 today. Unfortunately the new HO version didn't fit. Summit Racing fitment be damned!

Hard to be too mad about 30 minutes, but still.

I got a non running Ryobi weed eater to clean up some trails. It can't be more complicated than a German engine, right?

Check these guys out on Amazon. I am doing a refresh on an Echo backpack blower soon, and this comnpany has everything I need for really cheap.

Who has experience with plastic dip spray paint?

I have a chrome grill surround on the van and want to get it to match (somewhat match) the rest of the black parts on the bumper facia. Ram doesn't make a grill surround in black for my model year. Vinyl wrapping it might be my other option, but if plastic dip works decently enough, I'll give it a shot before spending dollars on a professional wrap.

Drove some rough mountain roads and shook mah tailpipe right off.

Thing finally rusted through just post-muffler. Luckily it was a slow speed event and I could hear it clattering on the ground before it could catch and make a bigger problem.

I did a set of winter rims for my 4Runner a few years ago. Like any paint project, prep and application were key. Many thin coats worked well. I was honestly surprised about how well the rims held up. Theoretically, if you don’t like the look you can peel it off. I painted the rims with the tires on and peeled off the overspray.

A soup can and a couple of hose clamps and it's fixed!

Is that rear axle pinion pointing down towards the ground?

Sweet parts without a good parts catalog was my biggest worry.

Nah it's just a weird pic angle, plus sloping ground.

Interesting I didn't know that was heat resistant.
I have a roll and it's helped for other things.

I'm on my second different after market ignition cylinder for the 96 f150.
    Only lasted maybe 300 cranks.

Do I need to call Ford and get an OEM?

    Nice work.

I don't currently have a lot of need for a string trimmer with no lawn. But I have an old 2 stroke Homelite that probably only needs a minor carb adjustment and clean, and then should be functional again. Free to a mag w/skills in Denver.

As long as you aren't opposed to chineseum and next or same day shipping, Amazon has you covered.
Getting tougher and tougher to justify shopping local. They never stock anything.

Amazon is keeping my stuff out of the landfill. The dishwasher chewed one of its brushes. "Local" motor was close to $300. Amazon was under $100. Super good enough.

Plasti dip works, sort of. It goes on easily enough but it's time consuming to keep layering thin layers so it eventually covers everything thick enough to be smooth looking. As far as being peelable, well, again sort of. Like with any paint it doesn't come off the areas it adhered to very well. The episode created could go in the shit that annoys you thread. Just commit to a color and paint it.
