I just got up here to visit my Mom and there’s an atmospheric river forecast to hit starting Sunday. Cascades could get up to 4” of rain. Wow. Wasn’t expecting this.

Hard to tell what’s coming from the weather today. Beautiful out.

    Looking South towards Seattle.

    West towards the Olympics.

Mom’s is on South Whidbey, Sun Light beach.

Today was definitely a bit stormier than I was expecting for June 2nd, but the rain let up briefly this evening and made for some great lighting.

Sunset last night was unreal over on the east side of Seattle. No good pics since I was driving.

Was planning on heading to Adams this coming weekend. I would be skiing, but friends hiking. It's received 20" of snow since Sunday, but weather calming down between now and Saturday. Avalanche reporting is done for the year. While I've climbed Adams in July, I've never skied it or gone this early. I know it's generally lower risk for avalanche, but not sure if the new snow will be settled enough. Any additional resources for me to look at beyond the FS and NWAC websites?

    Take a look at mountain-forecast.com
There were 70 mph wind gusts yesterday, and a warming trend is coming (no below-freezing temps even at the summit on Thursday and Friday).
My take is that the new snow will likely not be settled and certainly hasn’t been through a freeze-thaw cycle.
My friends and I canceled our plans for Adams this Friday - we’ll see what next week brings

Thanks. That's what we're leaning towards, too. Not worth the risk. Likely look at next week.

I'm not sure how much new snow there's been at Adams, but around Bellingham we just had a ton of rain and new snow up high. It's worth waiting a week for that to cook down, esp given the really high temps. Cooler 8-10k freezing levels next week could set up some real corn

This evaluation is basically what I do at WA pass as well, except it’s so close, I sometimes run up there anyway.

Has anybody gotten out this week since the storm passed? Wondering if there are any feasible options to ski or if everything is still transitioning

No ski photos, just some pics from the last two weeks of visiting my Mom. Weather has amazing the last few days. When it's like this, I can see why everyone wants to live here. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in the U.S.

Took the Key Stone ferry over to Port Townsend last week during a gale warning. This on the way back and the winds were ripping. Fun ride.

Some of the lowest tides of the year this week made for some great tide flat roaming.

Went for a short paddle in the kayak this morning and got followed by these two guys. Not a great pic but I like how Rainier dominates the skyline.

Skied Baker via the Squak this morning, dropped from the summit around 11, snow was nice down to around 7000ft where it turned to tedious mush, mostly melted out below 4700ft. The upper mountain is very filled in, perhaps fatter than the last time I was up there late May 2022.

Sea J's Cafe. Voted Best Seafood on the Peninsula!. Take a left off the ferry and about 3/4 of a mile down it's on the left or water side. Really good!

We just moved down to WA last week and are missing the ocean and a little overwhelmed by all the people and traffic. Went over to Port Townsend on Thu and now the wife wants to spend a long weekend, i.e. half a paycheck there, lol.

We did go to Sea Js and I will admit the halibut was solid. Definitely the kick I needed to start getting the boat put together so I don't have to spend the other half of my paycheck on fish!

BTW: Sea Js was cash only. $55 for a ten piece fish & chips with slaw and 4 pieces of garlic bread. More than enough for 2 or 3 people.

It’s a really interesting year, where the talk is it’s about 70% or whatever snow pack, yet at anything over 6000 feet there’s way more snow than the last few years.

Latest report from the weekend is the road is melted out to the trailhead. Snow almost all of the climb. Road is passable by most cars.

Really nice smooth snow at Stevens still, great for a quick lap and quiet hike.
