    Skibowl Monday night.

Lifts open at 3:00PM. Forget the pass, sunk cost anyway, and swipe the credit card. I can’t be there, take my spot.

Tues-Thurs would be good too. Lifts open at 3PM

Clear goggles, lots of stoke, friendly face. You will be skiing with all the powder-starved, underpaid, hardworking local mountain workers that keep this place going and are finally able get it this year.

East Wall gets dark. Once it’s closed don’t duck the rope it’s not a trick, if it is open go, but go with a new found buddy. The traverse starts far lookers left of the bowl as you come up the chair; takes off at the top of Accelerator.

Outback hasn’t been able to open yet. Maybe this storm does it? Maybe not in time for your trip though. If that gate is open though, go early because it will close at dark. Go with a buddy, a beacon, shovel, probe. Go. You will come out happy.

That’s my best info; assuming the forecasted snow does fall. I know there is fun to be had at all our other resorts, but nights at Skibowl are where it's at during a storm. Those slow old fixed-griped chairs will just keep chugging up the hill. 20-30mph forecasted winds won’t bother them at all.

Yeah, but you would have got only two laps if you followed the rules for early ups. You were supposed to wait around for the camera crew to set up and then wait your turn to ski past said camera.
    Miscreant.

I am an optimist but also a realist when it comes to what Meadows can handle with extreme weather. If NOAA’s 2 feet forecast actually occurs, would Meadows be able to spin MHX and HRX on time? When would the lower canyon and/or PR be open, if they can open? Tomorrow is Monday (lost $ day) and that could be a deciding factor to operate or not, no? I’ve postponed my pow-hwy trip after seeing the Hood forecast and my timing/karma at Meadows this season has been off. Anyway, hoping for the best pow-fest week of this el-nino season and i’m gonna dust off my fat boards and put some wax on them

Yeah, I think I'm going to wait and see and start late like noonish after seeing what they got going early... don't want to go up early and wait since I don't drink that early.

Oregon ‘23-‘24 El Niño Schralpadelic Rumble Thread

Funny thing about Zoodoo yesterday. It was of course fully parked out but the dry lot (could see all the parking striping) and good weather made the parking situation extremely organized, best I’ve ever seen on a big Saturday here. The upper lot right off 20 and shuttle service seems to be working pretty well. The other amazing thing was that there were SO many activities at Winter Carnival for kids and adults alike (axe throwing, disc golf) that the lift lines never really materialized, finally having enough snow to run Hodag (opened Sunday of Pres Weekend) also really helped with lines. Fun weekend, my kids are totally wiped out from climbing on all the snow sculptures 346 times and staying up late for the boom show.

How many safety techs does it take to escort a load like this? (I already know the answer, it was a lot!)

Big cat load of boom rockets makes for many booms:

Sounds like a good time. Bet the drive home will be peaceful.

    Axe throwing for kids eh?
A great combo event would be downhill snowbike racing with an axe throwing accuracy feature. Time added for poor accuracy. Mass start from top of green. Prolly wanna finish on Ed’s rather than Headwall or Dipper. And get an ironclad release from the competitors…

I count four in the cab of the cat, where were the others? And are those boxes strapped down? Looks kinda haphazard.
I believe I was told Mcfarland is a licensed pyrotechnics tech. Sorta fits his personality.

The westerlies blowing in at 40 with gusting up to 80 mph and the webcam showing the MHX in beast mode. Meadows indicating the lower heather and PR has more than 50% chance of opening. There must be no icing issues. See you all pow-hounds at the early lineup.

Glad to hear HooDoo delivered Schralph. Nice to hear some positive comments about a ski area in central Oregon.

I thought Sunday was absolutely gorgeous up on Bachelor Butte. So many grills out in the parking lots, I got a slight sun/wind burn, but didn’t mind I was so grateful for the conditions. You guys can thank me for this huge storm…. I left this morning and headed over to Utah.

Looks like second storm winds will be even worse. Knowing i have flexibility and wont be out there for a week. Would you push trip out a day or two for things to settle down? Im sure conditions still be excellent day 3 into it (considering east coast is about to go into full rain 55 degree this week). Since never been would like to explore as much of mtns as possible. ^^^Here’s the NOAA forecast for Mt Bachelor
    https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...8#.YYloWmDMI2x

    For Hoodoo
    https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...&lon=-121.8842

    And for Mt Hood Meadows
    https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...34194381514135

Now you know what we know

Mt B was great today if you didn’t mind 10 below windchill and skiing by braille. The 8” of snow was hella light with wee-wee tingling turns all AM. Lift lines were minimal and the 40-50 mph wind gusts made the chair rides exciting. I left at noon when everything but SRX & Rainbow went on wind hold.

I’m told half the Floridians that came up today immediately turned around and went back to town without even booting up.

What was your original itinerary? I think you gave us the route but not the exact dates or how many days at each resort.
If Zac Butler’s forecast holds, then yes it seems like this Thursday likely won’t be a great resort skiing (especially driving to the resort) day … but forecasts are not perfect, 1000 feet lower snow level and 10 mph lower wind gusts would make a big difference!

All time at meadows today! Somehow managed to hit the rope drops for star, pr, and jacks perfectly. Tomorrow will be worth your time
