Huge difference when photographer and skier are REALLY in sync — so easy to get lots of "this would have been perfect if ..." shots.

Everyone on this forum is a pretty jaded group in the sense that we've seen lots and lots of ski imagery. For something to have impact is meaningful.

Personally I think that very challenge is part of the fun — and what makes it really exciting when it all comes together.

@swimmy does a great job, consistently!!
    100% this.

And thanks for the compliment. That's very kind.

Just skied yesterday. Snow was a touch heavy but coverage is fantastic. It felt weird not nailing rocks every other turn

Having been gone for a week, also curious about conditions.

Things holding up? Any wind grooming?

Hard to say what Monday/Tuesday will bring, looks like a lot of wind, which could be good or bad. Might wait until Wednesday. Looks like they opened Three Forks today according to the website.

Does anyone here workout at The Cove? It's the closest gym to my house now. Is it super busy? All I would do there is lift weights pretty much.

At current snow levels, you are correct. If we actually had winter, the result would be different.

School me on tram stuff/schlasman’s. Going to be up there all next week with some friends. Probably going to bridger at least one day and then staying up at the Big with friends. I know the snow pack sucks right now but skiing and friends are still fun so I’m excited. Already decided to not being a backcountry setup but what about beacon shovel probe? Is only the beacon actual required equipment? Given the outlook do I need the rescue equipment for the runs that are open? Love headwaters area and I’m sure there is a lot of good stuff that doesn’t require it but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in the ridge, other stuff.

If you see me, ask for change. Green FRS jacket, grey helmet and black bibs.

Definitely bring the beacon as it is required for Schlasman's at Bridger and the Big Couloir and North Summit Snowfield at Big Sky (Snowfield hasn't been open yet but fingers crossed it might open this week, in which case definitely do it). Doesn't hurt to have the whole kit if you're skiing the Ridge at Bridger or off the tram/Headwaters at Big Sky IMO, but opinions vary on that. Check out the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center for info on the snowpack if you're considering going out the gates at all. I'll be at Big Sky Wednesday most likely, pm if you want to do a tram lap.

IMHO, if you know how to use it and own the gear, there’s little reason not to carry the probe and shovel if you are going to have the beacon. Who knows, you could save someone—good karma for someone else saving you I guess.

If you are flying and are close to your weight limit and only have a big 40L touring pack that sucks to ride chairs with, then sure, not the end of the world to just bring the beacon, but if you have some kind of smaller pack/vest, why not carry the gear.

North facing stuff is your friend. The south boundary of Schlasmans has been good as well as Three Forks in the Headwaters. Seems like Liberty Bowl might have collected some wind blown based on the snow report today. Says Bavaria collected 3" of wind blown.

Had breakfast with a group of legends/old farts. Heard some good stuff.

Was told Cornfed and his wife managed to trigger a 6-8' deep section of Lone Lake, they avoided the ride.

Was told there is a structural crack in the foundation of the Top terminal of the new tram. No idea what that means for the long haul. Probably jack shit.

Doesn't literally all concrete poured anywhere in Big Sky crack like crazy anyway?

Big Sky soooo busy today FYI.

Foundation? I thought they built it on pilings and grade beams? But wtf do I know. Blowtorch winds out there right now, I really hate the wind.

Isn't that the same guy who got slid and carried over a cliff back there last season?

Really appreciate all the beta. I think I’ve got enough room to throw the shovels and probes in with the skis. I’ll shoot you a message if I make it out Wednesday yeahman.

^^^ Shit. Tree strike fatalities are always traumatic, even worse when its a kiddo.

    Yep.

Also was told today that LML has bought Bozeman Hot Springs. See if that comes true.

Wind was nuking at Big Sky today, but it smoothed things out nicely up high. About 4 cabin waits in the tram line. Lots of people, but I really only waited in line for swifty.
