IMHO, if you know how to use it and own the gear, there’s little reason not to carry the probe and shovel if you are going to have the beacon. Who knows, you could save someone—good karma for someone else saving you I guess.

If you are flying and are close to your weight limit and only have a big 40L touring pack that sucks to ride chairs with, then sure, not the end of the world to just bring the beacon, but if you have some kind of smaller pack/vest, why not carry the gear.

If the terrain warrants a beacon (and here Bridger is telling people it does), you take the gear. Shovel (you have a metal one, right?) and probe are not for you — it's a respect thing for the people you are with. Even if you are alone, you never know when you might come upon someone in need. How would it feel to arrive on scene with zero ability to help?

Extra food and layers are often for the OTHER person, too. Many folks think in terms of "I won't need that."

Had breakfast with a group of legends/old farts. Heard some good stuff.

Was told Cornfed and his wife managed to trigger a 6-8' deep section of Lone Lake, they avoided the ride.

Was told there is a structural crack in the foundation of the Top terminal of the new tram. No idea what that means for the long haul. Probably jack shit.

He took a ride last season I think. Surprised anyone is poking around back there currently. Silly in my opinion.

Quick shout out to our own Hobie Tony.

I hired a contractor to replace the microwave above our stove with a hood vent. Dude started off ok but ended up being a total flake. I had to tell him to come get his tools Friday.

I was in a pinch so Tony came over Saturday to help me finish it up.

Cooler was full of cold ones today. I hadn't been down the big in a few seasons, so I was stoked to get in there (twice) this morning and chase my buddy Robbie down. Then, I spent the afternoon doing buff stuff on the dark side. Great day!
