Good yesterday before the warmup. I'm headed out of town for a few weeks, so you're all guaranteed good snow now.

Not bad! A bit of heft to the snow and definitely some … texture to the off piste but still fun

The lodging is secured. I plan to ski Meadows on Wed. before driving over to Bend to ski Bach Thursday and Friday… and I’m bringing sunshine with me… and some homemade M&Ms to share ;-) Most likely I’m flying solo (again) and I’d be glad to finally ski with any Bend mags who will be there.Click image for larger version.

What a great surprise walking up to the lodge and there you both are.
Great skiing with you two today, even though you were part of the Ikonic invasion

For only four days AMSS rocks the monoski.
Have fun at Monopalooza next week

Snow was a little on the dense side, hid yesterday’s ruts quite well () and got bumped out quickly. Viz level = CSS. But still fun.

Coming down the hill there was a big SUV missing some of its front end at the Lapine cutoff. Right behind it was a snowplow. Both stopped with their flashers on. Passed going the other way at Meissner an ambulance and DCSO rig, both with sirens and lights going. Coincidence?

The next two weeks could be good.

Might be a strong finish to the season with El Nino moving towards neutral.

So cool to ski with you TBS. Thank you for sharing your Monday snow. Hopefully we'll make it over that way again this season for another Ikonic monoski, ski, and snowskate session

It's coming down right side up at MHM right now. Hopefully, folks get to enjoy it before the warmup tomorrow.

Cold temps and fluffy snow made for a good day (other than the gaper dodging). Boar2M came down from MHM for a couple of days. Good skiing you G. See you tomorrow AM.

Seattle area and some California schools are out this week for winter break. An amazing number seem to have learned to ski by watching Donny Pelletier videos. So Ikonic!

And the Ikonicery is gonna continue next week with 300-500 snow riders arriving from…FLORIDA! Gonna be snowing all week, with Monday and Tuesday dumping and blowing. Should be special…

Beauty day just west of you TBS.

Warning: stay away on Saturday! I’m not kidding when I say that I think it will be the busiest day of the year here. Mostly because NYE got canceled so everyone will be amped for Winter Carnival … oh and bluebird forecast with good roads. I expect people to literally be parking on Highway 20 and trying to get here.

Thanks for the hospitality. You dudes are lucky to have mountain like that in your backyard. Bachelor is hard to beat when 360 degrees of terrain is available with good snow… maybe I can convince my wife to move there.

I think im chasing the storms coming in and heading your way. How busy is bachelor on a weekend next weekend to be exact. This is coming from east coaster where crowds are big so keep that in perspective. i have the flexibility for midweek as well just trying to time this storm cycle. Thanks. Im thinking. PDX hotel-day at hoodoo-cont to bend-two days bachelor-bend to hood meadows for day, back to PDX. Indy and Ikon.

Storm skiing on MHM or Bach can be spectacular if everything falls in line, but upper alpine slopes on both Hood and Bach are usually closed during storm cycles. How bad is the line in powder days at Bach? Pfft.. Ask TBS, he is the local ambassador on line managing ;-)

Be aware Hoodoo is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays with the exception of Spring Break. Willamette Pass is 7-days a week, cheap and empty midweek, and steeper than Hoodoo or Flatchelor.

The main thing with Bachelor on storm weekends is if winds come in strong enough to shut down West Lodge lifts, then it’s a shitshow over at Sunrise Lodge. Otherwise it’s normally a matter of getting on the road up the hill early enough, as there is enough terrain to spread the crowds - contrasting with EC.

    ^^^All true.
And I have stipulated - many times - that I’m spoiled. Crowds last week sucked IMHO with the Seattle area and California schools on break. At least we had Summit open for a couple of days. I don’t expect next week/weekend to be better with 300-500 Floridians converging. Esp. If/when the wind closes down lifts.

Given the forecast, Summit will not spin-at all, and I would not ride Northwest Express (aka The Roulette Wheel) if it does try to spin- unless you’re prepared to sit on a stopped chair exposed to the fiercest winds on the mountain for an hour while lift ops tries to fix whatever broke this time. Or if you do make it to the top, finding out it’s broken when you complete your lap.

All true as well. From Portland, Willamette Pass is an extra 100 miles or more of driving compared to Hoodoo. And the base at WP is only 40”; le’Doo has 55”.

The other thing about le’Doo - every Thursday the place is swarmed with Jerrys and college students taking advantage of cheap passes and booze. It is a colossal shitshow.

And as far as steep/deep/cheap, consider flying into Boise, then driving an hour to Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort. They’re open Thursday-Sunday. It’s a great 1.5 day mountain in a storm. Longer if you go cat skiing. https://anthonylakes.com/

Final thought - make sure you rent a vehicle with AWD And Snow Tires. All Seaons won’t cut it.
