anyone looking for some Gara HV 28.5s? i have a brand new pair that i need to clear out for cheap.
bumps are for poor people
I'm struggling getting my gara lvs fitted correctly. I have skinny ankles, skinny heel, narrow forefoot (96/99LR), and a normalish instep. I'm in a atomic hawx ultra shell with ~1 finger shell fit. I have maybe 9 or so days on em, and I've put about a tube and half in the ankle pockets (I think that's roughly 3/8s a tube in each pocket), and nearly 3 tubes in each tongue pouch, and I'm still not getting the heel hold that I'd like. It feels like they're squeezing my ankle bones, but I feel like there's still space in the front of my ankle.
How much cork can these things hold? I guess I should have bought an HV, seeing as how I've spent 120 dollars on cork.
I’ve got 8 tubes in GFTs and ZeroG. Don’t be shy. It’s good to start with the tongue but start putting it around your Achilles and the bend of your ankle in the side pockets.
As for squeezing your ankles, have you heat molded them? Get them really hot and go ski in them.
Did you put cork in the ankle pocket? Or instep pocket?
After switching to Cab Free's from Kryps, I had to add a tube in each tongue, a half tube in each instep and a half tube in each ankle pocket. Now I just have heat and massage the cork around before I ski to get it to settle in the right places.

I put them in my convection oven at 175 degrees for 8 or so minutes and wore the boots sitting down. It may not have been enough time.
I have 1 tube split between all of the ankle pockets (the donut) and a little bit in each instep. The tongues was where I was putting the most cork.
Really close to pulling the trigger on some Gara LVs. What is the general consensus on bootfitter vs. online quiz and DIY mold?
I do 15-20 min on heat stacks. I don’t live the oven as you can delam the sole if it gets too hot. With heat stacks, the hotter the better.
1 tube divided between four ankle pockets isn’t going to do much.
Dialing in my gara lvs in hawx ultra. I’ve put about a tube into each tongue. I want to add a bit to the lower ankle pockets too, any guides on how to distribute best?
Thanks for heads up, more cork ordered. I'm thinking I could get close to 8 tubes per liner on my Corsas.
If you put too much cork in the achilles you won’t be able to get your heel all the way back and your heel hold will be affected negatively.
One way to move cork around in the heel pockets is with the backside of a spoon, works pretty well.
I’m going to go out on a limb that if you guys are adding that much cork to liners, that either you are in the wrong liners for the shells or the wrong shells to begin with. People need to stop putting round pegs in square holes.
Ya this my thought. I’m a zipfit newbie, but have the workhorse, in a 100mm boot (pretty close shell fit) and haven’t had to add or remove any cork. I know the workhorse is probably more like a freeride liner (eg thicker) and I was expecting to have to to remove cork but doing 3 oven heats and skiing em 15 days they’re awesome. I do have non-skinny, regular ankles and calves.
All I’ve added is some Velcro spoilers.
It’s all about having leather on the inside. That’s the magic.

I love big dumps.
Not sure about that. Seems to be plenty of stories of people trying to fit Gara LVs in 95/96mm boots with lots of trouble getting them closed. So your options are Gara LV with cork removed or Corsa with lots of cork.

If I had to choose between the Corsa and Gara LV it’s the Corsa for the leather interior and pump the OMfit in there, that’s where the magic happens.
Every after market liner I have had, used and fit to people had been a bastard to close. Thats why heat fitting the shell with the aftermarket liner is the most important part. If you are in a true shell tight fit, the shells need to be baked as well.
i have three different shells, three pairs of zips and have used less then a tube of cork and have about 150 days on one of my pairs with still perfect fit in new shells with proper boot work.
Yep. I have a very close shell fit in my Salomon X Pros. It was a very snug fit with the stock liners. Added the freeride ZipFits, had to do a good bake of the liners and shells at the same time. Shell expanded noticeably.
Perfect snug fit 3 seasons later. I’m just barely reaching the point now where I’m considering adding a bit of cork so I can leave my buckles a tad looser

Exactly. In a shell like a Raptor, it's either squeeze in a neoprene LV or bulk up an all-leather Corsa. I choose the leather option every time. And, the new Corsa comes basically empty of cork because it is marketed towards plugs. Mine arrived bone-dry, so just getting them to an adequate starting point required several tubes.
I have corsas in my rs140. No cork needed. I have a gara stealth in my xt140. No cork. And a GFT in my xt3 tour pro. Probably a 3/4 a tube between the two liners. I guess it comes down to proper fit. Wrong shell or wrong liner seems to definitely be a problem. Also go get a proper fit. At home fitting doesn’t cut it. Why take short cuts, they are $500 liners so don’t cheap out in the end and skip a proper fit.
