I mounted my R87s with Hot Laps.
With cream to warm brown fade topsheets, I'm dubbing them my Creme Brulle skis!

I just might have another pair in the old gear closet.

Obviously not the intended conditions, but I couldn’t help it given my curiosity to compare with the FR110. For a fully rockered 120 underfoot ski they handled garbage proto spring conditions great, and felt very similar to the 110 little brother in a good way. They actually reminded me a lot of the 2015 184cm Billygoat (damp, drifty) but way more fun these marginal conditions, and were definitely more playful. Pumped to get these into the conditions they were intended for over the next week in Utah.

after much text back and forth with Marshal, I went 84cm from tail on the 187 r120. Haven’t skied it yet but it looks perfect. Not sure I’d go any further back

Is there a thread for the race room comp versions? I couldn't find it after a little searching.

I have two days on my R87s comps - at Palisades/Northstar last weekend - and they were great for the low-tide-ish conditions! Fun to carve, handled a few pockets of pow well, and was stable: on my second day I hit 55mph+ without thinking. Later in the day I went over a few bumps at speed - surprise! - and by their stability in landing was great. I likely need 5+ more days to fully have them dialed in, but enjoying them so far.

Now I just may have to demo the FR110s when I'm in SLC this week. I need to check my BSL but I may hit you up, Marshall!

I've had 3 pow days on the 187 FR120s and have some thoughts. For reference i'm 5'10", 155lbs before gear, and consider myself to be an aggressive but not remarkable or memorable skier when compared to some of the talent running around palisades these days.

First off, these things are fun enough that I'm seriously considering a backup pair as I have yet to find a inbounds pow ski that I click with as well as I do with these. As always construction and durability are top-notch, Tahoe has had a lean winter so far and while i've found plenty of rocks and trees already, all the damage is cosmetic which probably wouldn't be the case with other skis.

Strengths: These have 75% of the drift/slarve of a Lotus 138 or Heritage 132 but are also 75% more composed and manageable as the snow gets cut up or you're skiing variable conditions to get to the goods. I haven't had to go back to the truck and switch skis out midday on these yet, and I definitely would have done so if I was on a full reverse/reverse. They're also very poppy and playful in anything soft, they beg you to spend time in the air but can shut down speed quickly if needed, though the white room faceshots they can throw up require some planning as you may be blind for a full second. They're quick, agile, and deliver exactly what i'm looking for on days where you have a few inches of fresh overnight and 12-18" forecasted to fall during the day to keep filling things in. They're also really predictable and intuitive in any kind of consistent soft snow and have enough stiffness in the tail to kick you out of the backseat without completely beating you up or punishing you.

The other stuff: This is not unexpected, but with the FR rocker profile and flex, they do have a speed limit once things start to get cut up, especially in heavier maritime snow that has seen some solar exposure. This goes double for when you have heavy cut up snow combined with poor visibility, they're not bulldozers but more of a rally car or trophy truck that needs to be piloted with a bit of finesse. This is a tradeoff for the playfulness and pivotability at lower speeds and is not to say they're unmanageable at high speeds in variable snow, but I found myself having to ski more upright than I usually do in order to maintain the speeds i'm accustomed to in those conditions. I would imagine that this is much less of a concern with the 'R' rocker profile.

One caveat that I thought of yesterday after I put this up: Its not quite fair to the FR120s in that I'm comparing their stability and ability to just mob through cut up junk snow to the ski I normally use for conditions like that, the FL113, which is a unrealistic standard. The 120s do just fine in those conditions when compared to 99% of skis out there, I'm just so conditioned to not having to think about the snow quality by the FL113s that anything else seems weird by comparison.

I'm already thinking about a backup pair after 3 days on these on the off chance they're not available again in the future, and that is a ringing endorsement/review in and of itself. My only real debate is which rocker profile to go with.

Finally got a second to mount the ST120 FR’s. Nothing to add other than they carve hard snow and mixed surface better than any ski over 115 that I have used. They are damp, stable, quick, and FKNA fun. As mentioned, the build quality and tune is top notch.

ATK Trofeo Plus on sale from Oliunid for $300. I was planning to order a pair of ST120s in the BC layup/shape and then talked myself into a pair of c132s, I think those will match up with my objectives better. Anyway, Oliunid has good deals on ATK and Trab bindings right now.

R=More directional, tail support, better in chop/at speed.
FR= MOAR pivot, MOAR drift, a touch less work.

I think its really just a stability vs maneuverability choice, but I'll let others tell me if im wrong on this.

Agree. Both do each well and have overlap on the Venn Diagram, but to summarize:

R = more of a smashy personality
FR = more of a video-gamey ride
