Man, I avoid this thread for a week and it seems like everyone is losing a pup. My condolences to all of you. Put our Golden Bella down yesterday, found a nice spot in the yard to bury her. My 8 year old bravely held it together, until he didn't. Man it sucks right now. Dog followed me everywhere, room to room, lay at my feet, the entire house feels empty. Our other dog can't figure out what to do with himself, I can't figure out what to do with myself either. Go love on your dogs fellas, that's all I got.

Doggo-speed Bella.

Poor Gracie just walks the house looking for Piper. Got me up at 2:00 to go out to do her business, then about 10 minutes later barked to stand on the porch of the house to look for her for about 30 seconds, then came back in. Took her to the office today, and she went through every room looking for Piper.

That sucks. We have the vet come out to the house with everyone (family and pets) present to say good bye. The animals know what happened so looking for a buddy isn't usually a thing here. I know I always stop for a moment and think about the missing pet for what feels like years, so they likely do too. It is hard to lose a best friend. Wishing Gracie the best.

Thanks everyone. Boy is she having a tough day, we are hoping she goes in her sleep but if not we may need to make the call tomorrow. She's working too hard to breathe, she's way slower than usual and she seems to have a tummy issue on top of her other problems.

Yeah they look a lot longer in this pic than they are but yes, they're longer than most dogs would have. She's always had this thing where the quick runs too far down the nail so I can't trim them too far back. When she was a pup she was a digger so she kept them sanded down nicely and it wasn't a problem. We'll take her to the vet and she clips them before we say not to and then they bleed for a while and she ends up hating the place even more. It never fails...

What do I do with her? The ground is frozen. I've never had a dog die at home before.

I had to bury my dog last Thursday. We live at 6700 ft., ground covered in snow. I was able to get the job done with a pick axe, shovel, 5 foot pry bar and a whole lot of effort, though most my issues were because I live on a rocky mountainside so I spent the most time prying rocks out of the hole. Also as someone that has had to bury 3 dogs in winter months on our property it is best to keep them warm (in the garage) until you bury them as once they are frozen it gets really difficult to get them in the hole the way you want to. You want to get a minimum of 2ft down, 3 to 4ft would be best. I always put rocks on top so as no critters get into it.

Call the local dog crematorium if you wish, if they are not closed. Usually humane society can help you with logistics. You may need to hold onto her body overnight so you can take her first thing in the morning. Wrap around a blanket you no longer need as bodily fluids will start to exit in a few hours and the smell can become overwhelming.

If you just wish to dispose of her body (no judgment here), you will still have to likely wait until the am to take her to the humane society. They have freezers. It could give you a moment to collect your thoughts about what you want to do with her.

I'm sitting here on nearly solid rock just a few feet down, never been able to dig more than a foot or so. I can't see that working out too well. I just looked around and found a local pet crematory, when did dog cremation get so fukn expensive?

They may offer a discount if you choose to have her cremated with other pets as opposed to a solo cremation, it could be worth asking about. Usually they do solo cremations first thing in the morning.

Yeah they said drop her first thing tomorrow then pick up the ashes on Saturday. $650 is double what the last one was including the shot to put her down in October 2020. He said something about it going by weight though and Tigger was about 90 pounds compared to Hoppers 45 or so, so maybe that's it.

She was such a a sickly little thing when we got her from the rescue shelter at about 8 weeks old. It was two weeks until she could run a lap around the living room. She caught up pretty well and was great until Hopper passed and all of a sudden she started to get old (at 8). This was just a month or two ago
