I’m gonna cash in a bitch ticket because I can’t get a parking reservation tomorrow. First strikeout of the season.

Where is 3) Utah hates everything from anyhow?
Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.
Just go up early park at the bird and catch a bus to Alta.
I quit paying attention to the weather years ago, as I ski everyday the lifts are spinning there’s absolutely no point in wasting energy on forecasts. Can’t ski the forecast. Every remote worker/desk jockey is trying to do that. OpenSnow and better forecasting has certainly led to more crowds and don’t even get me started on Surfline (the creators of that website deserve a spot in hell).
The chalk in great Scott is primo, the access isn’t. No tram line during the holiday week is a bonus. Need a bunch of savy skiers on high rustler to spend a few runs turning on top of the bump instead of the trough to skier groom it.

I don’t come here often & I’m in another part of the Wasatch than most here but luv the posts from those skiing & appreciating how good it actually is, has been & the positives of low tide.
Front row parking
Not compelled to battle for first chair
Easy to dress for
No lift lines
Good visibility
Stress free driving
Still some freshies
& if ya gotta do a groomer it’s still pretty damn fun!

Apron @ Alta opened today
Tourists galore but still a great day

Not sure how successful yet, but I’m finishing a holiday side project to bang the reservation system every minute if a date is unavailable hoping to sneak in if someone cancels. If it works, I should be able to open it to other mags. Should work at all resorts besides Alta morning parking for now.

Bird chalk n fluff holding up if you know what angles to hit
ended some afternoon laps lookers left of silver fox.. did not disappoint. YE HA!
Just out of curiosity, how have the holiday week crowds been in the cottonwoods? More or less than usual?
Seems pretty typical at Alta. With the parking reservations it can only get so crowded. Definitely a lot of jerries on groomers who think they are better than they are....I'm not taking my little kids out this weekend.
If you go in with proper expectations, the skiing is still a ton of fun. Like others have mentionrd, nice chalk in the predictable places. Off trail is a ghost town.

Alta had one of its busiest days ever on Thursday, same day the bird parking was full but walk on trams and the only long line I saw was on chickadee. When most of the terrain is open LCC can handle crowds that are in line with beds and parking spots available in the canyon. Close a few lifts and terrain and its huge lines. Snow on the road and it’s a 3-4 hour junk show if at Alta, entry 1 bird probably cuts off 2-3 hours of car frustration. Clear road, like today, and it’s slow but not horrible.

When it's snowing and lifts are all running, the bird is not congested but there are definitely not walk on trams until about 3pm. Peruvian and zoom can get very tolerable lines and the mineral line gets bad. Today was parked out just the same and I couldn't find a liftline. Is the difference just more full cars, full buses and private shuttle loads of people? Or are the same number of people there but everyone is actually skiing at the same time? Theoretically the difference at the bottom of some of those lifts could be 500 people spread around, right?

In regard to backcountry travel, what’s the groups assessment on getting to George’s via Cardiff fork trailhead? I’ve heard fences, people with guns, omnipresent surveillance ? Sounds dystopian !
Who wants to guess how many cars park at Snowbird and take a bus to Alta to ski there all day (weekends only)? Is it 10-15% of all cars at Snowbird? That has to help keep the crowds down at Snowbird, unless very few do that.
