Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season
If ya screw up on hole #2, you can still mess with #3 to correct it, but paying attention to hole #2 saves a lot of time (doh!).
Whenever I try to print something to scale (a document I created), I'll draw a fairly long line (say, 5") in both X & Y planes, so it makes any scaling error easy to see. Those templates with 1"/25mm boxes will tell you if you're way off, but not if you're really "on".
With the printing errors I see on my HP printer, if I depended on a template to locate all 4 heel holes on a Solly type of binding, the front to back difference would be off by a bit. The holes that go across the ski (being shorter distance) seem to be within the range where it has minimal to no effect.

I’m sure this was asked but i didn’t find it: is the AFD on an old (but not ancient) pivot 14 swappable for a gripwalk afd to get appropriate toe clearance height?
if not…if i ride those skis w/ gripwalk soles, am i gonna die?
K, thx, appreciate that

I need to review this thread to refresh the memory, but I do have a GW replacement sitting on my desk if needed:

so I got the sth14 mounted up but I am not completely sure how to set preload, obviously its to do with how much of the adj screw sticks out from the binding housing but do I want it as far as the knurling or just before ??
I'm liking the STH14 and after selling off the ski swap rocker 2's they were mounted on they were only 60$ net, pretty happy with this find

Lemme pull a binding tomorrow & send you a photo of the base plate w/ a couple measurements. If it’s a match, I’d love to grab them! Thx
I've swapped Dual WTR and GripWalk AFDs on 14s with no issue - I see no reason that you could not with alpine and GW as well. It makes little sense to change the molds for the main binding parts to accomodate differing AFDs, easier to just make the AFD molding cater to existing designs when making it to fit new norms.
and yeah, this adds nothing as Alpinord already provided the same info with the depicted parts
I did have some issues with remounting a pair of alpine AFD Pivot 18s on a newer pedestal (they worked fine with Cast) - but that is the only issue I've run into wrt swapping around parts on Pivots.
Well I learned something new about the pivots. I had a convo with a ski tech last week and neither of us knew that the AFD was that easy to replace.
I've reached out to Rossi CS to ask on compatibility for the old P14 non-WTR/Dual/GW toe piece
I'll report here what I hear from them.
This image in the 20/21 Tech Manual made me wonder if somehow the 5355 AFD was ok with GW. But clearly, they could have updated that profile height to work differently from mine, so I just need to wait & see what they say.

Total newbie here. Can I reuse screw holes from a mount once binding screws have been removed or are they toast and require new glue or redrill?
What condition are the holes?
Are they hogged out? Spinners?
If it is the same binding mount pattern and holes are in good shape just reglue and screw that binding on.
watch out for snakes
^^^yeah, what he said.
If you can torque the screws properly in the old holes then you're good to go.

Sweet thanks that's what I was wondering. The bindings are still on skis and seem fine, I'm just contemplating this before transferring bindings to new skis and maybe converting the old skis to use inserts (which as I understand should take the remounts a lot better)
