I am in the wild fire business for 20 + years and I love reading this thread.

I don’t have the skills or the luxury of phone a friend or TFW who will give you
45 years of local/corporate knowledge. Not sure if most understand that luxury!!!

Can confirm, Alta was firing. Once crowds got on, lifts were quick if not non existent around 2.

Let the chaff uncover the rocks at the start, took the little guy skiing at Albion from 9-11 then went and closed it down.

Exit was cruiser.

We passed you a couple of times and my wife commented on the grom being a ripper.

Those two mountains are a special place, stoked to get 4 days of amazing snow and conditions even with the limited terrain openings. Met a bunch of cool people from across the country in the hot tub and bar, and didn’t burn myself out too bad! 9.5/10 vacation for me!

snowbasin really good today. Wet, dense, few runs the usual snowbasin scene but it was great. They opened a few more runs and found a fun traverse above boardwalk for some good fresh turns in some pretty deep. Snowstake got absolutely buried.

Lower mountain below middle bowl base was brutal getting down at the end of the day after skiing dense pow that activated muscles I hadn't used in 6 months lol.

From where we started this weekend (bare, tons of rock) to where we are, this storm was YUGE for getting more terrain open.

Came up for last trax today after Lions game. Wind buff was fun. Visibility, not so much. The Ho was holding some fun stashes late into the day. Things are getting better.

Heard an ASP got buried to neck below Eagle’s Nest. As TFW stated - head on a swivel boys…

Maybe a dumb question but why so many bombs on the greeley/eagles side of the T if no plans to open that terrain yet? Just making sure they do due diligence in case someone ducks a rope?

We sat in the car at albion for like 45 and bombs were hammering iver there at 10ish

That stuff can cross the creek onto the groomed run below Alf's.
Why there's always an avy guard posted there during shooting in case someone breaks interlodge.
Stuff was running far and fast today; just doing due diligence as always.

Wishin I was in the mix...
Runnin routes is like playing army. A team with an objective using guns, bombs, radios, procedures and protocols, etc. to achieve it.
With a silent enemy. They ain't shootin back, but dangerous all the same.
Lived up canyon most of my life.
Could walk home in 10 minutes, stumble home in 12.
Not gonna deal with waiting 3 hours to get home nows that we live down canyon.
And after hangin out in closed areas and cutting lift lines for 43 years, not gonna deal with shit shows like the last two days...
Got me an Ikon, an Indy, a Ford Transit with a heater.
Gonna get on the packed powder highway; goin places where it snowed last week, all the lifts and trails are open, and the groomin is solid.

Really looking forward to the TFW packed powder highway trip reports

went to check out the promised land, and as per tradition, the best way to figure out if the promised land is in is by going one big storm early

after 3 days of limited inbounds terrain options, it was good to get out and stretch the legs a bit. next storm it'll be good to go.

stoked to see people getting after it - D-Roc, your grom is absolutely precious. Fkn great stoke.

Folks are triggering large slides from a pretty good distance away right now.
Days like this it's possible to trigger a slide from the flats; a collapse from a seemingly harmless meadow propagates up into starting zones above.
Prolly shouldn't have said anything til this day is over, jinxing things and all. Fingers crossed. Seen a few fatalities of folks in the flats from this kind of sensitivity.
Anything to add, wra? You seen this afore...

Flatlandingsaregoodfortheknees said he landed a backie as hard as he has in his life off Wildkat yesterday and the group of 30 watching kind freaked out afterwards cause the entire slab shook and some cracks showed up when he landed - for many yards all around. This was inbounds.

So yeah, not at all stable.

I'm seeing a lot of people skiing conservatively. Mostly young with all the gear but, lacking experience.
Another group( I call them intermediate level avalanche experts) are out there purposely trying to initiate slides for notoriety and social media. They are the scary ones.
Not seeing much in the way of large destructive human triggered slides.
Looked at the slide on Reynolds face, today. I'd say over reported.



Cornice fall, not that deep nor destructive. The pocket that pulled out mid slope, lookers left, has some interest but, predictable.
Good settlement + a base above about 7k.
Haven't been in the wind zone nor above 9500' for over a week so...
For future stability, keep snowing!
