    Murder of rising cycling star

She will use this escape attempt as support for her defence. She’s on the run because she thinks she won’t get a fair trial.

I tried to listen to the opening statements but maybe got 10 minutes into it. Is that really the best they could do for a prosecutor? I worry the B-team Austin cops involved may have botched things up *just* enough with her initial arrest. Could that really derail this whole thing? It would totally suck for her to get off scott-free when she's guilty AF.

The prosecutor is very aggressive. He was objecting to like everything in the defence's opening statement.

Her defence seems to be: there were no witnesses/the circumstantial evidence was so overwhelming she had no choice but to 'leave Austin'

Some pretty graphic details of the murder came out in day one of the trial. It's gotta be tough for her family to be in the court and go through this.

This guy has the quickest and easiest daily recaps of the days trial.

One of the weirdest things is that Kaitlins's Facebook page is active again after all her social platforms went dark when she fled. Her new Facebook profile has been super curated with only specific photos and posts showing family, travel and yoga inspirational posts. The defense must think that it will persuade someone into thinking that she is sweet and wholesome.

Thanks for posting that video. It looks like Armstrong's only hope is establishing any reasonable doubt in the jury.

The creepy online stalking of Mo doesn't help. I also had forgotten that she tossed her bike on her way out, definitely some bizarre and impossibly petty jealousy going on.

She was smart enough to turn off her phone while going to Mo's house that night. But forgot that her car had GPS, and her Strava account has meta data that she looked up and followed Mo's rides, and zoomed in on the address where MO finished her ride, and meta data of her google mapping and street viewing the address, and meta data of her driving by the house the previous day with her phone, and car GPS on.

Everybody's worries are that the police botched their investigation and paperwork just enough to create a technicality that she gets off on.

Opening statements are where they tell their story of what happened. A common prosecution tactic is to object do much, it is harder for he jury to follow. I have not watched this. I don’t see a jury letting her off.

Looks like no cameras in court room until closing/verdict. Lots of daily summaries on YouTube tho.

Colin is on the witness list and is apparently is going to testify.

Interesting...different here. Around here, it's poor form to object during openings. Unless opposing counsel makes an argument clearly contrary to existing law or clearly misstates facts already stipulated to, the Judge is likely to admonish Counsel who objected.

The theory is: the party has to show the Jury what they claim in opening. If they don't elicit testimony/evidence to what they assert...then opposing counsel can use it in closing ("the Defense told you in opening blahblahblah...but did you see anything of the sort during trial...did you hear any testimony about that???")
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Kaitlin asking for ‘supervised release’ if convicted. Based on her clean record. My god, she’s such an entitled narcissist

Did they arrest him? It’s a bad look when you cannot even control the anger while on live TV?

I kinda feel like the photog was faking it like a soccer player when he yelled 'ouch'. Not a single police officer that was surrounding Colin payed any attention to the incident.

Not a good look to wear the same prison stripe pants while you're being chased by the law and then also when you're in a court of law.

No doubt - but what a stupid move. If you are going to cheap-shot someone at least pretend it was by accident.

Soccer players are better at this than he is.

Whatever games the defence is playing I’m sure they are trying to deflect from Kaitlin and create some doubt. Now with Colin behaving like a gorilla outside of the court house this could create a scenario that perhaps Colin pulled the trigger.

It just reinforces the narrative that Colin’s an asshole.

My take away at this point has been that she is crazy. He got burned a bit by dating and living with crazy. He lost all his pro sponsorships because he tried to manage crazy rather than a clean break. I actually have a better opinion of him than I did going into the trail. He has a lot that will haunt him from this.
Mom’s, tell your boys to leave crazy right where you found it.

Trying to string the crazy along while also stringing along the innocent bystander - he’s paying a very high price (financially, emotionally etc) for that behavior.

Usually that might lead to your dirty laundry getting aired on social media or your car getting keyed.

Who knows if there were signs of how much of a psychopath she was - regardless I feel no sympathy for him - that’s reserved for her friends and family. What a fucked up tragedy that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

whatever he does outside the courtroom shouldn't have any bearing on what happens to her inside the courtroom.

Even though their relationship was described as “on again, off again” they continued to live together and had a business relationship. That’s enough to bring out the crazy in alot of people.

    And she’s a redhead…
