Sorry for the what is this worth question but, what is this worth?

Frame, rear shock, headset, and seatpost clamp: 2020 Large Carbon Transition Smuggler, normal frame rubs and minimal paint chips, no wrecks or damage, brand new 2023 Fox Float X Performance Elite.

I'm new frame curious with some of the current deals and wonder what this would go for.

    Funny (and perhaps embarrassing) story.
While owning a bike shop in a small town in NM, where we lived less than a mile from the shop, I was asked if my wife and I rode to work.
I had to laugh and admit, "Not only do we drive, but we drive separately."
They were not as amused as I was.

To be fair, we started at different times and I was always having to run down something or another throughout the day.

Rewrap a saddle in some new brown leather? Difficult? See there are some kits availble, not sure if I have the crafting intellect for it but maybe, anyone ever had it done in the PNW by a leather shop? Shoe cobbler? Horse saddle repair person?
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

how ripped is it ? I have fixed a few saddles with AQS, color the area with a black sharpie, dab of AQS, cover tightly with a piece of plastic bag OR if you are dentist just buy a new seat

I feel crazy. Was changing over my wifes tires to a new wheelset and it sounded like there was a pebble inside the tire clanging around on the rim. I took the tire off and there is the sound of a pebble or small piece of metal somewhere in the rim that tracks as you rotate the rim (DT swiss ex511). Is there a hollow track behind the tape somewhere in the rim? I have taped wheels before and cannot imagine where this is happening. Thanks!

yeah so its just your wifes bike, the same one you experiment on ?

but seriously maybe the pebble snuck in at the hole for the tube

I was helping a buddy swap tires a few months back, since I own a compressor and he doesn't. I took the old tire off and the bare wheel sounded like it had gravel in it. I took the tape and valve off, and shook it around a bit, and out came a bunch of tiny balls of dust glued together with sealant. My guess was dust worked its way around the nipples / valve, and a little bit of sealant worked its way around the old rim tape. I got all the little balls out, taped it back up and it was all good.

Honestly the rips don't bother me at all, I'm building up a new hardtail project thought it would be cool to do something in a brown leather saddle, but absolutely LOVE my volt (s- pleural, use them on all the rides) so figured since it's pretty beat to begin with might try to rewrap

I have always looked at seats and wondered about recovering but just fixed em

if you got long rip tape it half way and AQS half of it, when the aqs drys do the other side

I’ve seen this be a nipple that falls in during the build and I’ve also seen it be a block that comes loose where the rim is spliced.

Took the valve out and could see a glint of something racing by but couldn't get it to come out. Untaped it and shook it around for a few minutes and this fell out of a spoke hole. Thanks for the tips!

I've got a kinda nuanced cockpit setup question. I've been running identical cockpit setups on my ebike and enduro bike (same bars, grips, stems, forks, etc.). Both bikes have the same reach numbers on paper. I had the same measured vertical height difference between center of BB and center of bars. However... I read that article a couple weeks back on PB editor's preferred cockpit setups, and Matt Beer made a comment that he's liked 35mm stems on bikes with <64 HTA, and 40mm otherwise. I've always preferred a 40mm (tried 45, 50 also), but figured I'd get a 35mm to try on the ebike because even though on paper the 2 bikes have right under 64 degree head angles, the ebike sits closer to 63 on the floor due to the extra weight's sag.

I was previously running I9 A35 stems on both, flipped so that the flat side was on top (its spec says it's a +/- 6 degree, which at 40mm length works out to be like +/- 3mm). On the ebike, I put on a OneUp 35mm stem, which is a normal centered stem. I kept the same number of spacers under both stems, but I flipped the A35 on my enduro bike to bring it up slightly like the shorter OneUp stem going on the ebike. I checked the BB-bar delta measurements, and they were the same afterwards.

I did like how the steering on the ebike sped up a little bit (previously it felt a tad slow in comparison to the enduro bike), and liked the added stack height on both. But I noticed that I'm feeling more pressure on my hands on the ebike after these changes. Not so much pain, but just like more of my weight is on my hands. I didn't notice this sensation on the enduro bike which kept the same stem length but had stack height increase a bit.

What's the most likely cause of that sensation of more weight on the hands?
    *shorter effective reach
*possibly ended up with slightly different bar roll?
*change in weight balance relative to the fork, so need to change pressure/damping slightly?

To have the same BB to bars (diagonally vice vertically), with slightly less reach, u need a little more stack to compensate. RAD/RAAD stuff. The below calculator isn’t perfect, but helped me get fit dialed on my bikes…or I’m way off base, but for me, too much hand pressure usually means not enough stack. Hope that helps.

Why would too low of stack increase hand pressure? Especially since I'm pretty certain both reach reduced and stack increased. If anything, I'm guessing I need to drop the stem 2.5mm.

Try the longer stem with with increased stack. It sounds like you take some measurements but I wouldn't trust all the published numbers.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking - that maybe the sharper handling is just coming from the high stack (as opposed to shorter stem), but the added pressure is from the effective reach being a smidge too short (from the shorter stem).

I just bought some Shimano winter shoes (MW701). I usually slam my cleats as far back as they’ll go, but the plate seems to stop about 8 mm ahead of the back of the cleat slot. Should I be able to move the cleats all the way to the back of the slot?

A while back someone posted a link to a site that could compare the effects of changing out things like stem length, bar sweep. I tried searching for it, couldn't find it. Does anyone remember what that was?

Lots of xc shoes don’t have same rear/mid foot cleat position, of which many winter shoes are more closely related. Some people would really be bothered by 8mm, others not at all. YMMV

I switch between Shimano XC, trail/enduro, and winter shoes myself w/o much problem personally

So the plate won’t move all the back in the track? Sometimes the plates are flippable for another point of adjustment if that’s the case.

You are using the rear set of screw holes in the plate, correct?

Yeah, using the rear set of holes. The rear holes on the plate won’t go all the way to the back of the slot. I think I’d need to flip the plate, but I can’t get in there since the winter shoes are sealed.
