One year they hired Utah as the guest speaker/entertainer at the annual dinner party for the docs at my Kaiser hospital. He was hilarious, as usual. My wife and I got the share a dinner table with Utah and his wife--he shared the secret that a lot of his stories were "adapted" from other humorists--Marchall Dodge in particular (Bert and Virgil downeast Maine stories). No one else sat at the table with us--don't know if the were shunning Utah or me--we're both too left wing for most docs. The next year they hired a hypnotist.
