And I never have. Paid $200 over 2 years like you on my upgrade from the iPhone 7 to the 11pro. Upgraded to the 14promax with a new 2 year payment on $400.
The trick was to start with early iPhones and the upgrades didn’t sting like spending a grand does outright. $400 for this amazing phone is a steal.

Hey gang- I have a brand new unopened iphone 12 128g that we bought for my mom but we ended up not opening/ activating before she passed away this summer. With Verizon
LMK if anyone here is interested in purchasing.
I have a clear case for it too- also unopened.

I'm optimistic about the Pixel 8. I really wanted to like the 7 but it was too glitchy for me. But the UX and camera were rad.

I'll be eager to see it too. I had had Google phones since I got my first smartphone, but switched to Samsung for my current phone because I wanted a telephoto lens on a phone that wasn't gigantic and Google only put them on the big version. This seems a bit smaller, so we will see.

I want a system where all my phones charge on a single pad. If I am going to work where I usually surf tgr and browse bringatrailer, I want to grab my fancy fast big screen phone. If I am going skiing or riding my bike, I want a longer life more compact phone with a kick ass camera to go with me.
I want my phones to sync so whichever one I grab when I open the browser it's right where I left it. The apps should all generally be the same. Call and text history should all be there on both. If someone calls or texts, it should go through to the one I grabbed.

    What phone now?

Funny to hear a bunch of others also kept a iPhone 7 long term — must have been a good one that we lucked into to still be hanging on
I’ve done a battery replacement but it otherwise is in pretty darn good condition

    New phone arrives next week
Hopefully the stories of it overheating aren’t common issue…gonna hand it back in if that’s a problem

Me too. $200 for my Motorola phone last November. Such a great deal for a really good phone that has a stylus and headphone jack. Great photos too.

Probably not- The various Flip phones would be a possible with the big screen when opened up and sitting at a desk, then flip it closed to carry it around and all. Not sure on the battery life of the various models though- The Z Flip 5 is smaller closed and the Samsung Fold is much bigger screen when opened so may have a bigger battery hit when used in the opened position. Motorola has the Razr and Google has a Fold version also maybe to compare and check out.

Seems like a combo of Google phones would fit the bill. Smaller like the 7 and big dog in the 8 Pro? Syncing wouldn't be a problem.

I also want what Basinbeater described. Will either Google phone just make calls etc? How does that work with your SIM?

Although realistically I'll just end up keeping this S22 until it dies. If Asus would make the Zenfone work with Verizon I'd be tempted though.

Syncing email and apps, yes doable. But with 2 devices (unless you tether say just a tablet from someone to your phone with the Sim in it, then text messages and calls would only be of course on the device with the main sim). A workaround would be to use something like Google Voice or some VoIP provider for the calling and SMS. The 2nd device would have a different number if you have 2 cellular sims for the data access on each without sharing. Samsung has a way to link their phones and tablets with Bluetooth and using some apps like Flow or Smart Things app. Many smart watches basically can be set up this way- small screen to make/receive calls, notifications of messages and then it is tied to a phone usually for the bigger screen, taking photos of course would be on the phone though.

Google has a few tablets out there now and may have a similar type of solution.

My Android tablet syncs messages with my phone. I bet using Google Messages will sync them across phones, but have not tried.

Right, but each phone has to have a separate line, which means money. Its an expensive way to solve the problem. There probably isn't a cheap way at this point. A partial workaround would involve Google Fi and free data sims. Then find a voip solution you can use from any of them at will. It doesn't solve actual SMS. However if you get your important contacts all on Signal, Threema, or Dog forbid WhatsApp, you are mostly there. Is there a VoIP provider that will receive and send SMS?

Is your tablet a LTE or Cellular or just Wifi? There are some variables I am just pointing out on SMS from a carrier vs using a Google Voice, a 3rd party or the Manufacturer of your phone and tablet's same SMS text app. My one tablet that is LTE is on T-Mobile, my phone is a Verizon (prepaid MVNO) using the Verizon Text app and I do not even try to sync because of the 2 different carriers... So if the tablet has no cellular sim and just on Wifi, that will be different also.

Samsung Wifi tablet. Uses the Google messages app. I use Google Pixel 7 Pro on TMobile for my phone.

To answer your question- YES, a number of VoIP providers have at least an option to support SMS and texting over the VoIP number. Many have Soft phone apps also to use your phone. Intermedia is one example that has a higher end plan including being able to SMS from either a PC or probably cell phone...

Yes, since it has no Sim and separate number, then using Google Voice on both devices and logging into the same Google account would get the same email, messages, and calls if using the Google Voice number.

The apple ecosystem does this although I don't have experience routing calls through various devices. Really nice that syncing safari/imessage/etc. works with macos as well.

Yeah, I still have GV too. IIRC, they didn't kill it so much as hide it.
